Can you pause your mail online? ›

Please visit USPS Hold Mail Service to submit a request online. You will need to sign in to or create a USPS.com^® account to begin an online USPS Hold Mail request.

USPS Hold Mail^® service can hold your mail safely at your local Post Office^™ facility until you return, for up to 30 days. To hold your mail longer or to reroute your mail, please sign up for a forwarding service. You can make your request up to 30 days in advance or as early as the next scheduled delivery day.

You'll need a USPS online account to submit a Hold Mail Request online. Those that don't have an account can enroll here. If you don't want to create an online account, you'll need to visit your local post office to fill out a Form 8076 or call 1-800-ASK-USPS to submit your mail hold request.

For a fee, USPS Package Intercept^® lets the sender or recipient stop delivery or redirect a package, letter, or flat that is not out for delivery or already delivered. Most domestic mailings with a tracking or extra services barcode are eligible for Package Intercept. You can only request a Package Intercept online.

In general, mail delivery resumes on the scheduled date following the end of a mail hold period. If you have placed your mail on hold with the postal service for a specific period, mail delivery will typically resume on the first scheduled delivery day after the designated hold end date.

1) Talk to the Post Office

The most effective way to stop receiving mail for previous residents or strangers is to talk to your local Post Office. Most of the time, you'll be able to quickly resolve any issues by listing your household members as the only people who should receive mail at your address.

There is no fee for Hold for Pickup service. It is available for eligible items when postage is paid through: USPS Click-N-Ship® and USPS Click-N-Ship v2 (both Legacy and Enhanced CNS)

To hold mail longer than 30 days, the Post Office recommends their mail forwarding service. For last-minute travelers, you can schedule the service to take effect as early as the next scheduled delivery day, while travelers with a longer lead on their trips can schedule it up to 30 days in advance.

USPS Hold Mail® Service Lets You Stop Mail for 3-30 days

USPS Hold Mail® service allows your local Post Office to stop mail delivery if you're out of town or otherwise need to suspend home delivery for at least three days and a maximum of 30 days.

Delivery service may be suspended when there is an immediate threat (including, but not limited to, threats due to loose animals) to the delivery employee, mail security, or postal property. Delivery service may be temporarily withdrawn when animals interfere with our ability to complete mail delivery.

You can put your mail on hold as many time as you want as long as there is at least 1 day in between your vacation holds. Although a vacation hold can only last 30 days, you can talk to the supervisor for your delivery area and ask special permission for a short extension due to extenuating circ*mstances.

The only way to completely stop delivery is to request that all mail services be discontinued.

Write to sender

You can write or email the sender directly indicating that you no longer wish to receive mailings from them.

On your computer, go to Gmail. See all settings. Next to "Undo Send," select a Send cancellation period of 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds. At the bottom, click Save changes.
