HOT ACTORS: “How to Find a Bankable Actor”

Got the script. Need a name actor attached. And, you actually have the name of an actor in mind. Here’s how to find his/her phone number.

Again, you have the great Script and need to get it to him/her to either (A) Hire him/her or (B) Partner with him/her but you needhis/her phone number and address…or at least their agent or manager’s contact details… then here’s how to find them.

First, is your actor/actress(A) a Celebrity Movie Name, a (B) Recognizable TV Name, or Second is he/she(C)a Nobody, but in SAG, that you saw in a movie that you think is dynamic, would be great for the part and you want to discover him/her.

There are 5 routes.

  1. SAG
  2. IMDB
  3. Production Company (IMDBpro)
  4. Baseline (Baseline Research)
  5. FlixTracker (Variety)

HOW TO FIND ANY SAG ACTOR

First, if a “Nobody” (AKA: An actor who has worked in tv, is likely a member of SAG but has no Opening-Title-Credit on a feature film)

SAG: All actors that have been around for a while are probably members of the actors union, which is called the “Screen Actors Guild” or “SAG”.

If the actor is in “SAG”then you simply go the SAG website (www.SAG.org) and get SAG’sregional phone number.

Then you dial. Someone will answer and say “Hello”.

You then say the magic words “Representation, please” and you will be instantly forwarded to someone sitting in front of a computer monitor and you tell him/her the 1, 2 or 3 names of the actors you’re looking for.

If they are a member of SAG, which they probably are. This person will thengive you the name of their agent or manager and his/her phone number.

Voilla.

HOW TO FIND A NAME ACTOR.

Second, if a “Somebody” (AK: Actor who has been in movies, has numerous Opening-Title-Credits but a massive mortgage on their 7 Million house and needs cash-flow)

POINT OF INFO: IMDB stands for “Internet Movie Data Base”.

To go through SAG to get to the actor’s agent or managerwill make it very expensive tohire the actor. Remember: Agents get 10%. And 10% of a No-Budget Movies actor’s salary is likely $1-5/day or $50-100/picture and, in essence, is not worth the agents time to talk with you… So you want to circumvent, when possible agents, to talk with actors

Again: youwant to circumvent the agent from route #1, because once you are talking to their agent everything gets difficult, arrogant and super-super expensive.

Thus, to go around the agent, If the actor, you’re looking for is a name, a celebrity, they will always have a production company andit is always better to get to the name direct, via their production company, than try to get to the actor via their agent.

Thus, callthe name actorsproduction company and ask to speak withhis/her Development Executive (I’ll explain this conversation in a later post).

Now, to find (A)the name of theircompany(B) the company’s address and (C) the company’sDevelopment Executive you go to a site that is “www.IMDB.com”. (Ooopsmistake, keep reading)

But wait, not “www.IMDB.com”, which is a very good site for free information when you are researching a term paper… but this is not what you want. You just want the Names, Addresses, Contacts &Phone Numbersthen, to get this info, you subscribe for one month to “IMDB.com”, which is now called”www.IMDBpro.com”.

The key is “pro”. This site, withIMDB with the “pro”is where you get the actual names, addresses and phone numbers of the production company that they own.

Voilla!

Want to get your script to George Clooney, to Will Smith, to Drew Barrymore, to Bradley Cooper, to Angelie Jolie…then they each own a production company which will be listed in the website “www.IMDBpro.com”.

So get a subscription(it is cheap) for something like $10/month…I believe that you can get a 2-week free trial… “2-Week Free trial”…

Got it.

Third, once again more for non-names (first-timers) rather than names (celebs),is to go to your local Film Commissioner and they will have a directory of which actors/actresses are in their local region.

Doing this remember, is not for celebrities or true names but the local actors, who are looking for Opening Title Credit parts in No-Budget feature films to launch their career.

To find your local film commissioner, they all belong to the “Association of Film Commissioners” whose website is “www.AFCI.org”.

ACTOR DATA BASES:

Fourth & Fifth are two other data-base websites like “IMDBpro” which are “Baseline” and “FlixTracker”.

However, they are much more expensive than “IMDBpro”.

And forget about the Hollywood Creative Directories, a series of books that was published and updated annually that listed all the Production Companies, Agents, Managers, DealMakers and Distributors for they went out of business2 years agobut you might find one of their directories on sale at Amazon under “used books”.

GOT A SCRIPT. NEED AN ACTOR.

No more excuses.

You have the Great Script. Actors are always saying “I’m looking for a Great Script”…now, assuming you have the great script then (A)use these data-bases (B) Get their address and (C) send it out with a (D) Contract-For-Hire.

Hope this helps and always remember “actors are looking for anyone with a great script and a little bit of money that is offering Opening Title Credit parts…

Here is homework.

What is the name of Johnny Depp, or Drew Barrymore or George Clooney or Matt Damon’s production company?

You don’t know!

Then go to “IMDBpro.com” and you will find it.
