Can you get cards graded for free? ›

As part of the grading process, if the card is worth $2,500 or more and meets the requirements of it possibly having a minimum grade of 8 at that price, customers are eligible to have the card graded for free.

Take your cards to trade shows or card conventions to have them evaluated in person. Check if there's a grading service with an office in your area. Drop off your cards to have them graded on-site. Contact local card and comic shops in your area to see if they offer in-person grading or drop-off service.

Grading is an incredibly effective way to increase the value of your cards. For example, the difference between a PSA 9 and a 10 is massive. However, many collectors waste a lot of money grading cards that are not worth the money and the effort.

Card grading ranges from as little as about $18 per card to as much as $600 per card. The main factors that affect the cost are how many cards you want graded, how quickly you want them back, and which specific service you're using to grade your cards.

The grade assigned to a card significantly impacts its value. A higher grade usually means the card is in better condition, which can make it more desirable to collectors and investors. The grading process examines several factors, including centering, corners, edges, and surface.

You should ONLY get your cards graded IF it will increase the value or make the sale of the card(s) easier. You should NOT get your card graded just because you THINK it will improve the value. Grading cards costs money.

GMA is the cheapest grading company. At present they offer $3.50 per card prices, while the big guys, PSA and Beckett, want $35 (or $20 if you send a lot of cards or don't care how long it takes to get them back).

You cannot get official grading done for free because someone has to be compensated for their time and you will have to pay for shipping for your cards to get to and from the grader.

The four conditions used for grading are the quality of the surface, sharpness of corners, crispness and sharpness of edges and how well the image on the card itself is centered, front and back. Not every card is a candidate for grading. Newer cards have higher standards for grading.
