APIs should be considered as a stand-alone application. Do not consider them the same as the UI and test them together. In many cases, APIs are developed and marketed independently of a UI.Even if a project has a UI and APIs, these should still be treated as separate applications and tested as such. This helps determine where bugs are so that development can implement a fix faster.

In my experience validating API response is very important, if we try to consume response with any validation our system might get inflected or data atomicity is impacted. there should be some contract to validate before actual processing it to further.

Data in API response can be validated using karate DSL framework. A am is BDD tool which is built on top of cucumber. Assertion can be verified using “Match” keyword which is used to compare the actual api response output with the expected output. The assertion can be done with exact match and partial match.

Using mock server we can test for actual behavior's of target system with mimicking prod like conditions to testing environment. due to which we can resolve bugs and dead code conditions before actual deployment.

APIs in aircraft systems is a crucial component. It helps or drives the communication access between different systems or components in aircraft or communication with ATC servers. The communication is so crucial that if API does not respond accordingly then it can lead to a catastrophic event. Hence, it is crucial to validate all API being used. Few of many ways could be end to end testing, Fault injection, stress testing, automated testing etc. All these helps in validating the response, reliability, robustness and safety aspects of API and provide confidence to the Pilot that data is correct and could be act upon in a safe enviornment.
