Nowadays, finding a job seems to be hard even for seasoned freelancers. 6 proposals is nothing. You will probably need to send 60, hopefully not 600.

6 proposals over what span of time?

Some weeks I have sent out 80. When I started it took 3 months before I landed my first job. I spent a couple hunder dollars on connects but the first few jobs paid that off and gave me ratings and real work in my portfolio.

Make sure you have a strong proposal, strong portfolio, and if you don't have a website, set one up. Weebly.com will allow you to setup a basic one for free and they will look amazing.

The short answer is likely quite awhile. When I started years ago, it was difficult to transition from the physical world to online freelancing, despite the fact I had glowing testimonials and excellent skills. I did not find immediate success. The situation is more difficult now since Upwork has no limits on freelancers and connects. Even with the best skills and resume, when new, everyone has to put in a lot of proposals and connects before landing a job.

If you are going to be a freelancer, you can't become attached to proposals. Write them and let them go, expecting never to hear from the client. Keep applying and don't look back. As Elisa said, six proposals is nothing, and 60 is much more reasonable, and hopefully not too many more.

You need to go through the Academy links and work on your profile. You say you are a writer, but there are errors in your too-brief profile. Learn everything about Upwork, the Terms, and how to stay safe.

As others have stated, it will likely take a while to land your first job. It's difficult to speak in terms of days, weeks, or months because it varies. As a new freelancer though, it will likely take severals weeks to months.

As Jeanne, Elisa and others have stated, you will need to send a higher number of proposals to increase your chances. But only send proposals when your Profile is 100% complete. And, take Jeanne's advice and go through several Academy Learning Paths and Courses--they will help you a lot.

You send just 6 proposals, let me tell you mine I have sent more than 20 proposals for my first job, don't ever get demotivated and the reason for this, is just if you get your first job, your career is going to start on Upwork by just providing the quality work to the client. The same happens with me struggled a lot in the first job but when I get it, now it is easy to move on from day to day.

I have been here for four years, I'm a top-rated freelancer and in the last couple of weeks I sent a little more than 40 proposals and I haven't gotten any new jobs. So all I can say it's good luck!

Iqra,

It might take between 10 to 50 jobs submissions to obtain your first job.

Modify your Summary to include four short paragraphs (too short now) and add a Project Catalog.

Have a wonderful day!
