Why is My E-scooter Not Running at Full Throttle?
Knowing the cause of the issue will allow you to take the necessary steps to fix the problem and prevent it from happening in the future. The most common cause for an e-scooter that doesn’t run or accelerate at full throttle is due to a battery or battery pack that’s old, worn out, or defective.
If you look inside your e-scooter, you will find the speed controller between your battery and motor. Most controllers have a cut-off function for a low voltage which switches off the motor when the voltage of the battery or battery pack hits a zero charge.
This function is necessary to prevent the battery or the battery pack from over-discharging, which can lead to battery damage. Remember that a battery shouldn’t be left under low or zero charge as it can decrease its battery capacity or lose its ability to recharge. When this happens, you will need to replace your battery.
An old, defective, or worn-out battery or battery pack will drop to a zero state of charge when used at full speed, causing the controller to turn off the motor. Deep charge the battery

If the charging port is fine, test the charger next using a multimeter. Start by checking if the battery or battery pack is below a full charge and needs to be recharged. After determining this, connect the charger to the e-scooter charging port and the plug on the wall.
Then, test the battery voltage using a multimeter and check if the voltage is climbing. Make sure to set the multimeter to a DC voltage range for a more accurate reading. If the voltage slowly increases, it means that the charger is recharging successfully. Then, charge it completely and test the battery voltage again to see if it is at a 100% state of charge.
If the battery or battery pack didn’t charge at all, then the charger is faulty and needs to be replaced. Buy an original charger with the same specs as your charger to avoid complications. Ideally, buy from the same retailer or brand.
Check the battery’s voltage
If the battery charges at 100%, leave it for a few minutes and check the voltage using a multimeter. If the voltage drops below the full charge, it means that the battery is worn out or defective. You may want to replace the battery immediately to avoid inconveniences and further damage on the battery.
