By far the easiest items to obtain, Poke Balls are used by the trainer to capture the many Pokemon you find when exploring the world.

When encountering a Pokemon in the wild, players can attempt to catch a Pokemon by holding down on the Poke Ball and sliding up and letting go to launch it towards the Pokemon. If the Poke Ball connects, the Pokemon will be caught unless it tries to break free - which rarer and higher level Pokemon are known to do.

Players can influence bonuses on catching Pokemon by aiming the ball towards the center of the Pokemon while letting the circle indicator shrink down. The closer the ball is to the center, the better bonus you'll get. Players can also hold down the ball for a curveball bonus that grants additional experience.
How to Get Free Poke Balls
Spinning Photodisks
To begin, players are given 50 Poke Balls, and more can be found readily by visiting any PokeStop or Gym and spinning its Photodisk, where a player is likely to find a couple of Poke Balls and a Great Ball. In addition, the player will often receive a great deal of Poke Balls for each level up that the trainer achieves.
Purchasing from the Store
If none are available or close by, Poke Balls can also be purchased from the Store in exchange for PokeCoins - 20 Poke Balls for 100 PokeCoins, 100 Poke Balls for 460 PokeCoins, and 200 Poke Balls for 800 PokeCoins.
Open Gifts
Once per day, you can open aGiftfrom one of your in-game friends to get a selection of free items and raise yourfriendship level. This can include Stardust, or more relevant here, a few Poke Balls. Depending on where you live, and what access to your Friends you have, you can open over a dozen Gifts per day, which can net you a decent number of additional Poke Balls for free.

Daily Free Box
In the Store, you can redeem one free Box per day, each with the randomized chance of containing a small number of Poke Balls.
Field/Special Research Tasks

By completing tasks that regularly rotate, or those that appear in special limited-time events, the associated rewards will often include at least one or two sets of Pokeball clusters. Not all Tasks require you to spend Poke Balls you already have, so this can be a great way of restocking.
Daily Adventure Incense
One of the newest methods to acquire a daily restock of Poke Balls, the Daily Adventure Incense grants you 30 Poke Balls once you trigger it, so even if you don't intend to take advantage of the Incense itself, it's almost always worth it to use it daily anyway to benefit from the huge Poke Ball boost.
How to Get Better Pokeballs
You gain access to better Poke Balls like the Great Balls and Ultra Balls by leveling up your Trainer. From level 12 on you'll begin to gain access to the more advanced Pokeballs helpful for catching rare Pokemon.
Pokestops also sometimes grant access to these rare items at higher levels. You'll begin to realise that all usual acquisition methods for Poke Balls have a small possibility of providing higher-level Balls the higher level you are yourself.

Regarding the information provided in the article about Poke Balls in Pokémon Go:
-
Poke Balls: These are essential items used by trainers to catch Pokémon. They are easily obtainable by visiting PokéStops or Gyms and spinning the Photodisk. Players receive 50 Poke Balls initially, and they can acquire more by leveling up, purchasing them from the in-game store using PokeCoins, opening gifts from friends, redeeming the daily free box from the store, completing field/special research tasks, and triggering the Daily Adventure Incense.
-
Catching Pokémon: To catch a Pokémon, players need to encounter it in the wild and aim the Poke Ball at the creature. Aiming for the center of the Pokémon and timing the release while the circle indicator shrinks down increases the chances of catching it. Additionally, holding down the ball for a curveball bonus grants extra experience.
-
Higher Level Poke Balls: As players level up their Trainer, they gain access to better Poke Balls such as Great Balls and Ultra Balls from level 12 onwards. Higher-level PokeStops might occasionally offer these better Poke Balls as rewards.
-
Acquiring Better Poke Balls at Higher Levels: All the usual methods of obtaining Poke Balls, such as spinning PokéStops or Gyms, have a chance of providing higher-level balls as players progress to higher levels themselves.
Understanding the mechanics behind Poke Balls, catching Pokémon efficiently, and strategizing the acquisition of better balls is crucial for success in Pokémon Go. If you're aiming to catch rarer and higher-level Pokémon, optimizing the use and acquisition of these items becomes pivotal in your gameplay strategy.
