1. Open A Coinbase Account
You'll need to have an account with Coinbase in order to receive cryptocurrencies.
Coinbase is a cryptocurrency platform that has been around since 2012.

2. Verify Your Coinbase Account
To send/receive crypto, you do need to verify your account.
This verification is done through uploading a photo of your driver's license or other state issued ID.
Here's how:
- To do this, you will click "Send/Receive" once logged into Coinbase
- A popup will appear that prompts you to upload a photo of your ID (front and back)
- This can take 1-2 business days to complete
If the image of your ID is clear and matches the information in your account, verification will be completed in minutes.
3. Find Your Coinbase Wallet Address
Crytpocurrency is held in a wallet, and every crypto wallet has a specific address.
In order to transfer crypto from one location to another, you will need this address, which can be found in Coinbase quickly and easily.
Here's the steps:
- In the "Home Tab" of the Coinbase app, tap "Receive" at the top (on the desktop version, click the "Send/Receive" button)
- A new screen (popup on the desktop version) will appear with a QR code and an address
- Beneath the address, you will see a cryptocurrency
- Tap the box to select the crypto you wish to transfer
- Copy this address with the "copy" function on your phone
- You will use this once you initiate a transfer from Venmo
Always double check to make sure you are sending cryptocurrencies to the correct wallet type.
For example, Bitcoin to a Bitcoin Wallet Address only.
4. Send Crypto From Venmo To Coinbase
Here's how to send crypto out of your Venmo account:
- Verify your identity with Venmo
- Visit the Crypto tab in your Venmo account
- Choose the type of crypto you want to send (make sure it matches the type for the Wallet you copied from Coinbase)
- Click on the transfer arrows in the bottom right corner
- Select "Send"
- Enter the recipient's information (For Venmo users, enter their name. For PayPal users or external wallets, enter their address.)
- Specify the amount of crypto to send; Venmo will calculate any fees
- Review the transaction details carefully
- Click "Send" to initiate the transfer
- You can find your transaction history in the Crypto tab's feed
