What do CIA agents tell people they do? In most cases they tell them where they work, unless they have a reason not to in which case they'll tell you they work “for the government” or some agency. In any event they won't talk shop with you, just politely tell you they can't or don't want to talk about it.

The pass rates hover between 40-50% meaning on average, more candidates fail the exam than pass. Since a career as a CIA requires a sophisticated and technical skill set, this exam is intentionally difficult. Don't let that discourage you! If life gets in the way or you fail an exam part, you can still expect to pass the exam in about a year. Getting an associate's degree usually takes 2 years. If you only have an associate's degree, you must have 5 years of internal auditing experience in order to receive the CIA.

The DCI's title now is "Director of the Central Intelligence Agency" (DCIA), serving as head of the CIA. Currently, the Central Intelligence Agency answers directly to the Director of National Intelligence, although the CIA Director may brief the President directly.
