The following goods and items can be imported if they are accompanied with permits from relevant Icelandic authorities: telecommunications equipment is subject to permits from the Post and Telecom Administration; firearms, ammunition, and explosives are subject to permits from the National Police Commissioner (although individuals holding a European Firearms Permit can import the weapons stated in the license without a special permit if the duration of the stay is less than three months); live animals are subject to permits from the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority and need to go into quarantine; and flowers and plants are subject to permits from the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority and need to come with a phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin (although individuals can import a bouquet of cut flowers, flower bulbs, and roots up to 2 kg).
Individuals can bring medicines into the country for personal use corresponding to 100 days’ dosage; however, anabolic steroids and similar substances can only be imported in quantities corresponding to less than 30 days’ dosage. Drugs cannot be imported by mail for personal use from countries outside the EEA. It is prohibited to import used riding gear, including saddles, bridles, reins, etc. due to infection risk. Fishing equipment, angling gear and riding clothes that have been used abroad can be imported if these items come with a certificate that they have been disinfected.
The following items may not be imported: toxic and hazardous substances; narcotics; chewing tobacco and finely powdered snuff; uncooked meat products; certain foodstuffs (meat products may be imported if they have been boiled or canned); weapons; and knives with blades exceeding 12 cm.
