“Let’s sit and talk” is something we always hear or overhear, when there are some severe issues that need to be taken care of. “Sit back and relax” is something we get to hear when there is somebody who is unwell and needs to take the rest or we use it in various other situations. We have not noticed this that how important a chair is to us. You can not focus or make yourselves comfortable until you are sitting on a chair or any seat. As much as sitting is important for us to let our minds be focused and settled, a comfortable chair is also essential.
We are so much used to using this utterly comfortable furniture item, which we do not even realize how difficult our lives would have been without a chair. Can you imagine a computer being operated without the help of a comfortable chair? In that case, either the operator will be sitting cross-legged on the ground to manage it, or if the table is used to place the computer, then the operator will have to bend while standing. In either case, the operator will be operating in positions that are very uncomfortable and wrong ergonomically. So, read the following points that highlight the importance of chairs in our home and everyday activities:
1. Chairs are used as the place of honor: When we talk about the dining table which is inside our homes or even outside somewhere at some hotel or in any gathering, we know that the elder member of the family will be made to sit at one of the extreme center seats. This is no custom or stereotype, but this is practiced as a gesture of respect to place the most experienced and learned person at the center. This was traditionally initiated, because since the tradition of dining table was new, so everybody made the wisest man sit on the end, so that, everybody else on the table can see him and learn the proper way to eat on the dining table. So, chairs have been playing an important role in representing gratitude and respect to the eminent personalities. If we recall, our prestigious king and queen too used to sit on the throne, which was the symbol of their power. Our politicians fight and plot for the chair of the highest power in the country. Today, in the bus or train, if we see an adult standing, we offer them our chair, as a token of respect. So, this is how a chair is used to represent the place of honor.
2. Chairs are used to support social gatherings: One can simply not enjoy standing throughout the party. It is always more comfortable to listen to your friends and exchange gossips while you are sitting. Also, most of the parties take place around the dining table, where if there are no dining chairs, we might not be able to raise the toast or create a subtle environment for our guests to eat comfortably. There are good games that are played with the help of chairs, remember chair race? There are more, though!
3. Chairs facilitate sitting in every corner of the house: Whenever you feel tired, just sit. This rule can be applied in any corner of the house. You feel tired, just sit and read or sit back and relax. Your child wants to study, you just sit next to him and monitor his pattern and help him out.
4. The word ‘Chair’ is also used in dignitary words: The ‘Chairperson’ or ‘Chairman’ or ‘Committee chair’ are some words that are associated with some respectful position holders, that are called on the name of a chair. This is how a chair is also responsible for naming the most famous chairs.
5. Chairs have helped technology: Imagine the computer geeks and the scientists and mathematicians who work for prolonged duration behind the screen of equipment, so that the world is lead towards digitization, each day a more. The corporate people could not have been able to help the economy so well if there had not been any chairs to provide them comfort while they sit and work for long hours.
So, this is how a chair had been an innate invention in the history of mankind, which emphasizes the need of using an utmost comfortable one to celebrate its presence.
