How to use our income tax calculator
Simply enter your income (or adjust the dollar amount using the slider) and pick how often you get paid: weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or annually. And, you can also choose between gross income (before taxes and deductions) and net income (after taxes and deductions). Our handy income tax calculator will take it from there, giving you an estimate of how much you can expect to pay in income tax.
Just a heads up: our calculation doesn't include the Medicare levy surcharge or any rebates and tax offsets that might reduce the amount of tax you pay.

Gross income is the money that you earn before deductions such as income tax are removed. Net income is the amount you receive after these deductions.

The Australian Tax Office (ATO) collects income tax from working Australians each financial year, which runs from 1 July to 30 June the following year. The personal income tax rates that apply for an individual can be found on the ATO website.
For Australian residents you can earn a set amount of money each financial year in the tax-free threshold, and then you will be taxed progressively on income above that amount.

The Foreign Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) applies to any US citizen or resident of the US for tax purposes. These include:
- anyone born in the US (who has not renounced US citizenship)
- US citizens (including persons with dual or multiple citizenships)
- US lawful permanent residents (e.g. green card holders).
