Intel has once again pushed the boundaries of desktop CPU performance with its latest release, the Core i9-14900KS. Boasting an impressive clock speed of up to 6.2GHz without overclocking, this processor sets a new benchmark as the fastest available to consumers. This achievement surpasses last year’s record-breaking chip, which maxed out at 6GHz.
The Core i9-14900KS features a new architecture, and comes with 24 cores and 32 threads, along with 36 megabytes of Intel’s Smart Cache technology. This proprietary technology intelligently shares cache memory among the cores, promising powerful performance for both gaming and content creation tasks.

Another highlight of the Core i9-14900KS is its support for Enhanced Intel Application Performance Optimization (APO). This feature can deliver up to an 11 per cent increase in performance in compatible titles, enhancing the user experience, particularly in gaming and content creation scenarios.
Memory support is robust, with the Core i9-14900KS capable of accommodating up to 192GB of DDR5 5600 MT/s or DDR4 3200 MT/s memory modules. This ensures ample memory bandwidth for handling intensive workloads and multitasking.
Intel has also integrated its Thermal Velocity Boost tool into the chip. This feature, available in 11th Gen and later Intel Core processors, dynamically increases the clock frequency by 100 MHz when temperatures remain below a threshold of 70 degrees Celsius (158 degrees Fahrenheit). This emphasizes the importance of maintaining efficient cooling systems for optimal performance.
In terms of performance metrics, Intel claims that gamers can expect up to a 15 per cent improvement, while content creators may see a significant 73 per cent uptick in performance during compute-intensive workflows.
The Core i9-14900KS is compatible with Z790 and Z690 motherboards, although Intel recommends using the latest BIOS updates for optimal results.
Already available in the market, the Core i9-14900KS is priced starting at $700. It can be purchased from traditional retailers as a standalone product or integrated into systems from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) shortly.
It’s worth noting that Intel’s focus with this release remains on achieving raw speed rather than emphasizing artificial intelligence, a trend that has been evident throughout this year’s product announcements.

As for pricing, the suggested retail price (SRP) commences at $699 or about Rs. 57,980. The CPU is available for purchase globally through retailers either as a standalone processor or incorporated within systems offered by Intel’s network of channel partners and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
