Fortunately, there are several steps you can take to improve your iPad’s speed and get it running smoothly again. In this blog, we share helpful tips to get your iPad back up to speed. The speed of an iPad depends on a lot of factors, try as many of these tips as you can!
Close unused apps
One of the easiest ways to improve your iPad’s performance is to close unused apps. Double-click the Home button (or swipe up a bit from the bottom of the screen, depending on the model) and swipe up to close the apps. Despite the measures built into your iPad’s software, apps can still run in the background and slow down the speed of the app you’re working on. Try it out! Did it have much effect? Free up space on your iPad
Full storage space can significantly affect the speed of your iPad. Part of your iPad’s storage can be used as working memory. More working memory makes your iPad faster. We recommend keeping at least 20% of your total memory free but the more, the better!
Go to “Settings” > “General” > “iPad Storage” to see which apps are taking up a lot of space and delete unnecessary files or apps.
Update your iPad software
Always make sure your iPad is running on the latest available software version. Updates often include improvements in performance and stability. Check for updates in ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Software Update’.
Turn off animations and movements
Reduce visual effects on your iPad by turning off animations and movements. Go to “Settings” > “Accessibility” > “Reduce motion” and enable this feature.
This ensures that no (short) animation is displayed when opening an app, for example. This makes your iPad feel much faster.
Clear Safari cache
If you use the Safari browser a lot, clearing the cache can help improve speed. Go to “Settings” > “Safari” > “Clear history and website data.
This makes your browser as fast as when it was just installed.
Disable ‘Refresh in background’
Prevent unnecessary load on your iPad by limiting automatic refresh of apps in the background. Go to “Settings” > “General” > “Refresh apps in background” and disable unnecessary apps.
Once you have done this, you also don’t have to keep closing the unused apps as recommended in the first tip!
Consider a factory reset
If your iPad is still slow, consider performing a factory reset. However, back up important data first, as this will erase all data on your iPad. You can perform a factory reset through ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Reset’. This is often the most effective method. However, it is also the most invasive and time-consuming option. But definitely recommended!
