2020-08-26T04:47:15.807+00:00 Thanks for the question! As far as I know, the answer is yes, you can mine on Azure VMs. I can't find anything that explicitly states you cannot. This thread from 2018 supports this.
As for advice - as stated in the other thread, I'd recommend using a VM powered by a hefty GPU such as the NC Series. Here is a link to a doc that describes the different NC Series configurations. Also here is a link to the pricing calculator so you can see how much it would cost you. Again I don't know if it will be profitable when you factor in the cost of the subscription but hopefully, this information will help you make a good decision.
If this answer helped answer your question please mark it as accepted. Thanks for engaging the Q&A community, I'd be interested in learning what your ultimate conclusion ended up being. Have a good one.

2021-01-01T16:52:03.97+00:00 Why does the Nvidia GPU extension crash all vm's I install it on? AMD extension does not... I have a 2016 Server Datacenter with GUI on a NVas_v4. Also, the AMD Radeon Instinct Mi25 only shows 2 of 16 GB...

Thank you

2021-06-19T10:04:20.02+00:00 So as mentioned in JWHero123-4317's post, we can not mine cryptocurrency in azure in most of the current offerings.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/410112/azure-subscription-disabled-my-journey-please-help.html"Can cryptocurrency be mined on Azure?
Cryptocurrency mining is prohibited in most of the current offerings, including the Azure Free Account and the Azure for Students account. You can check out terms of each offer here:
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/support/legal/offer-details/"You will not facilitate, engage in, or participate in any use of Azure services, for crypto-currency mining, denial of service attacks, spamming, or illegal activity, and/or any use that could cause harm to Microsoft or others, and will enforce strong internal controls to prevent the same."
In addition to the current offer terms, you'll need to make sure that local laws do not prohibit mining."
