Can I use IXL as a full curriculum? ›

IXL is open and flexible: You have access to our entire PK-12 curriculum and can adapt it to meet the needs of your unique classroom.

For each skill, you'll see each student's SmartScore, questions answered, time spent, and date of their last practice session—especially useful to monitor practice results for skills you assigned.

Students will need to answer as many as 10 questions correctly in a row to achieve mastery. For most skills on IXL, students will have to complete a minimum of 28 questions to earn a SmartScore of 100. When a student achieves a score of 100 on IXL, you can feel confident that they have truly mastered that skill.

Unsuccessful, more stress than learn!

Tracking their progress was another nightmare. The reports were hard to read and didn't offer any real insight into each student's specific issues. I found myself spending more time trying to decipher the data than actually teaching.

One major drawback of IXL is its emphasis on repetitive practice rather than fostering deep understanding. The program often focuses on isolated skills without providing real-world context or opportunities for critical thinking.

Not only does IXL help kids master fractions and subject-verb agreements, but IXL is fun – so kids enjoy learning. When my kids are having fun learning – I find that the learning “sticks”. Plus, the IXL Continuous Diagnostic algorithm pinpoints what students know and what they're ready to learn.

IXL gives you everything you need to maximize learning

IXL provides thousands of curriculum and instructional resources, actionable analytics, a state‑of‑the‑art assessment suite, and much more. Each component works together seamlessly to help your teachers and students succeed.

IXL has a strong focus on math and language arts, while Khan Academy offers a wider range of subjects. Consider your learning style: If your child is a visual learner, then you may prefer Khan Academy's videos and articles. If your child is an auditory learner, then you may prefer IXL's games and quizzes.

Set a daily time goal

Tell your students to set aside 10-15 minutes each day to work on IXL. Remind them to find a quiet place to work and set a timer for uninterrupted work time so they can achieve a deeper focus.

With IXL, it is possible to never be done with homework. If a student is required to get to a SmartScore of 85 and are struggling with a concept, it would take them far longer to complete than the 20 questions of book work. Some students of BAMS agree that IXL is causing them too much stress.

Are IXL questions randomly generated? ›

Questions on IXL are algorithmically generated rather than pulled from a static question bank, ensuring that students never see the same question twice and always have something new to practice.

While we offer memberships for online practice that are widely used by teachers and homeschool parents to support their teaching, we are not an accredited school and are not authorized to verify or issue school credits. Completing skills on IXL will not equate to proof of grade completion or transcripts.

Comprehensive curriculum and personalized guidance

IXL makes it easy to teach any lesson, personalize instruction, and accelerate learning. Covering all 4 core subjects, our PK-12 curriculum is aligned to all 50 state standards, popular textbooks, and standardized tests.

IXL recommends that students initially aim to diagnose until they reveal complete diagnostic data. This should take about 45 minutes to 1 hour per subject and can be done over multiple sessions. After getting their initial levels, students should answer about 10 to 15 questions per week in the Real-Time Diagnostic.
