Legend Quest (2024)

Legend Quest (レジェンドクエスト, Rejendo Kuesuto, Legend Quest) is an event added in the Version 8.6 Update. It is available after clearing Empire of Cats Chapter 1.

Overview[]

Legend Quest is a map somewhat similar to Heavenly Tower, with 48 stages known as LEVELs. Each LEVEL is a random Stories of Legend stage that provides a random lineup. All LEVELs are No Continues, and exiting a battle within 10 seconds will not refund items, Crowns or energy.

Stage Clear Requirements[]

To play LEVEL x, the player must first beat Stories of Legend sub-chapter x + 1. For example, in order to play LEVEL 4 of Legend Quest, the player will need to have beaten Stories of Legend sub-chapter 5, Risqué Terrain. From LEVEL 11 onward, there is an added requirement of having a User Rank of 1600 or more.

Cost Requirements[]

In addition to energy, the LEVELs require Crowns to access. The player will begin with a set amount of Crowns, which is equal to the number of Stories of Legend Crown difficulties they have cleared. Crowns obtained from Uncanny Legends or Zero Legends do not count here.

The maximum number of Crowns that the player can have is 196. Crowns spent in Legend Quest do not impact the player's progress in Stories of Legend. Unlike Energy, they do not regenerate over time. However, they are restored every time Legend Quest appears. Every time the player retries a LEVEL, the Crown cost increases by 1, maxing out at 4 Crowns for LEVELs 1~40 and 5 Crowns for LEVELs 41~48.

Stage Randomization[]

Legend Quest's LEVELs are randomized. Upon starting LEVEL x, the game will pick a random stage from Stories of Legend sub-chapter x to x + 1. For example, LEVEL 1 is a random stage from The Legend Begins or Passion Land. However, it is not completely random - LAST LEVEL (48) will always be Eldritch Forces. Once a stage is picked, it will not change until the event's next appearance. Stages are on 1-Crown difficulty, and the Enemies Appearing menu can be used to see the enemies in a LEVEL before starting it.

Lineup Randomization[]

Legend Quest will change the player's lineup upon entering a LEVEL. Cats will be swapped with random other cats that the player has. The number of cats swapped is random, though it will never change all 10 Cats. Unit forms are the same as those currently selected in the Upgrade Menu (i.e., if Cat is currently selected, its form will not be changed to Macho Cat or Mohawk Cat). Empty slots in a lineup will not be filled. The more the player attempts a LEVEL, the less likely it is for a cat to be swapped.

Recommendations[]

• Complete as many Stories of Legend Crown difficulties as possible. Once you get to around LEVEL 20, do not expect to beat the stages in one try. Crown consumption easily racks up as you retry the stages. Having more Crowns means having more retries.
• Upgrade every Cat Unit you have that could potentially be helpful, especially the ones with generalist traits. It would be distasteful to receive Figure Skating Cats but at a low level.
• Take time to study each stage and do some planning. Knowing the stage mechanics allows you to know how to beat the stages even with random cats. If it isn't obvious how to tackle a stage, you can try to identify it and look up the corresponding stage.
• Remember to pause and check each randomized unit's abilities through the "Confirm Units" button. Knowing what you have to work with is always important. It's a good idea to change your cats' forms before entering any stage, depending on their level. Because of this, you can easily tell which cats are worth putting on the battlefield, while others stay behind.
  • In a similar vein, keeping a few of your Ancient Eggs in their Evolved Forms may be worth considering so you have a higher chance to get a meatshield.
• When possible, bring multiple good counters for an enemy/situation you foresee to be troublesome. For example, if the stage has Razorback, bring many solid black stallers such as Bombercat, Wargod Nobunaga and Cat Eastwood. This way, if one of them gets swapped, you might still have others to keep you going.
• Consider investing in Talents, so that units can serve more purposes if you roll them. For example, Cameraman Cat may appear useless on a metal stage at first, but if you get her Critical Hit talent, she suddenly becomes a LOT more useful.
• Avoid units who are only useful in presence of specific others, such as those who exclusively help through Cat Combos, or in a rush-down approach that needs another rusher, as that other rusher or combo constituent may be swapped away, removing two or more good units with one swap.
• If you are more concerned about items than Crowns, try stages a couple times before resorting to using them, as you are more likely to keep the necessary units for a stage if you already failed it a few times. If saving up Crowns is the higher priority, using items if needed and crossing your fingers is instead preferable.
• Even if you know a run is doomed based on the randomly selected cats, it's still important to play it out, to get a feel for enemy timing. Occasionally, you'll be surprised and find it isn't actually impossible.
• Have fun! No matter how skilled or how knowledgeable you are, Legend Quest is still all about luck. Try not get stressed out with the wrong cats that get picked for you. Just laugh it off and continue fighting until you burn out or get lucky enough to beat this entire challenge.

• Prior to Version 10.7, Legend Quest used Stars instead of Crowns. Oddly, the tutorial shown when tapping the Crown icon wasn't updated to reflect this.
• Legend Quest's logo is heavily based on Dragon Quest's.
• In BCJP, Legend Quest's logo in the event poster has a very different subtitle from the English Version's: 天空の大地と過ぎ去りし伝説の物語 (Tenkū no Daichi to Sugisarishi Densetsu no Monogatari, "Heavenly Land and a Passing Story of Legend"). Everything before 伝説の物語 ("Story of Legend") is a mash-up of three of the Dragon Quest games' Japanese subtitles:
  • 天空の (Tenkū no, "Heavenly") is from Dragon Quest V's Japanese subtitle, 天空の花嫁 (Tenkū no Hanayome, "Heavenly Bride")
  • 大地 (Daichi, "Land") is from Dragon Quest VI's Japanese subtitle, 幻の大地 (Maboroshi no Daichi, "Land of Illusion")
  • 過ぎ去りし (Sugisarashi, "Passing") is from Dragon Quest XI's Japanese subtitle, 過ぎ去りし時を求めて (Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete, "In Search of a Passing Time").
