Green card holders cannot vote and cannot serve on a jury. They can sponsor their spouses or their children, but that is it. They can travel into the United States for as long as they want, but they can have their status revoked if they commit a crime or they stay outside of the United States for too long.

While green card holders can live and work in the United States, and enjoy most of the same benefits as a U.S. citizen, permanent residents are not U.S. citizens and because of this do not have the full rights of a citizen. Limitations include: Green card holders do not have the right to vote.

A conditional green card means you can live and work in the U.S., like any other green card holder, but for only two years before having to update your status again to a full, ten-year green card. Conditional Green Cards cannot be renewed.

Lawful permanent residents residing in the U.S. on green cards cannot vote in local, state, or federal elections, even though they have the right to live permanently in the U.S.

Remaining outside the United States for more than one year may result in a loss of Lawful Permanent Resident status.
