Ludo King becomes first India-developed game to surpass 1 billion downloads on Google Play (2024)

Indian video game developer Gametion has announced that Ludo King, its self-developed mobile game, has surpassed 1 billion downloads on Google Play. Ludo King first launched on iOS on February 20, 2016 and expanded to Android later that year. In the eight years since, it has reached players across 30 countries and 15 languages and became the first Indian mobile game to surpass one billion installs worldwide. And now, it’s reached one billion downloads on the Play Store alone. India has remained the largest market since launch, across both downloads and revenue, while Indonesia and the US are also notable markets for the game.

How China’s regulatory landscape for video games is expected to evolve

A new report from Channel News Asia (CNA), which includes quotes from Niko Partners’ Director of Research & Insights, Daniel Ahmad, sheds light on how analysts expect the regulatory environment for video games in China to evolve. The article comes shortly after the NPPA removed new draft regulations for online games from its website, prompting speculation that the proposed regulations will not be implemented. We currently expect the NPPA to re-evaluate the draft based on industry feedback, and then create a new framework that includes additional specificity around certain areas mentioned in the prior draft, while removing other areas.

Free Fire announces its participation in Esports World Cup

On February 22, Garena has announced the participation in the upcoming Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia with a $1 million prize pool. The competition is July 10-14th with 18 teams, in Riyadh. Free Fire is the second game to announce its participation in the esports world cup, after Honor of Kings $3 million prize pool participation.
