Main Logo Variations Trailer Variations

These are the logo variations seen throughout the years by Marvel Studios, with more to be added overtime.

Marvel Entertainment

X-Men: Next Dimension and Blade II (both 2002, video games), Hulk (2003, video game) and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (2005, video game):

  • The logo animates normally, but at the end, a female voice says "Marvel."

Hulk (2003):

  • The background is green and the comic book panels shown all display the Hulk. At the end, the logo zooms out and is revealed to be inside a small teardrop on a black background. On 35mm open matte film scan prints, the logo zooms out to a much farther distance than any other aspect ratios. Here, more of the comic book panels can be seen.

The Punisher (2004):

  • The background shows Punisher comic panels. Once the logo is formed, the background turns black, and about a couple of seconds later, bullets fly through it.

Spider-Man 2 (2004):

  • An alternate version of the opening titles had the logo be cut up by strands of Spider-Man's webbing. It can be seen on the Prologue Films Vimeo page.

Blade: Trinity (2004):The logo is red at the beginning and turns normal at the middle.

Fantastic Four (2005, Theatrical version and Extended version) and its sequel:

  • Fantastic Four (2005):
    • The comic panels all display the Fantastic Four. The logo also glitches twice, and the background turns blue. As the logo finishes, the camera moves to the right to reveal a city skyline. On the Extended Cut version of the film, the background is blue throughout.
  • Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007):
    • Exactly the same as the extended version of Fantastic Four variant, only this time the letters turn transparent so an outer space background is revealed inside them, and the logo zooms in to reveal the rest of the background. This was done by Framework Studio.

Elektra (2005):

  • The logo shows comic panels of Elektra.

X-Men film series:

  • X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and Logan (2017, Theatrical version and Noir version):
    • The panels show the X-Men. On the Noir version, it is in black and white.
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine (video game and movie trailer, 2009):
    • The logo is made of adamantium (the indestructible metal that covers Wolverine's entire skeleton in the comics).

Ghost Rider (2007):

  • The flipping comic panels show Ghost Rider, and at the end of the logo, the background fades to black and the logo is set on fire, replicating Johnny Blaze's transformation into Ghost Rider, and takes on a twisted demonic form with spikes shooting out of the top of every letter except the "R" (two spikes shoot out of the "M").

The Incredible Hulk (2008, video game) and Thor: God of Thunder (2011, video game):

  • The logo is zoomed in further than usual.

Iron Man and Hulk: Heroes United (2013):

  • The logo animates slower in the middle of its animation, while the flipping page sound plays normally.

Spider-Verse films:

  • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018):
    • The "IN ASSOCIATION WITH" variant of the 2002 logo glitches out. This was made by Devastudios.
  • Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023):
    • Very similar to the first film's variant, but with different glitches. After a few seconds, it backs away to make room for the Sony Pictures Animation logo.
  • The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story (2023, short):
    • The logo is shortened and cut to its last few seconds, and glitches out.

Morbius (2022):

  • The "IN ASSOCIATION WITH" variant of the 2002 logo is darker than usual.

Marvel Studios

Thor (2011) and its sequels (except for The Dark World):

  • Thor (2011):
    • The logo cross-fades to the night sky.
  • Thor: Ragnarok (2017):
    • It's mostly identical to the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 variant. Once the logo finishes, it is seen burning red as flames appear below the logo. The camera then pans up into the opening scene. A clip of this variant, starting from the logo in its finished position, but without the audio, can be seen on PERCEPTION's YouTube channel here. The case study for this film, including this variant, can be shown on PERCEPTION's website here. According to PERCEPTION, they collaborated with Method Studios to create this variant.
  • Thor: Love and Thunder (2022):
    • The regular logo's fanfare is played on a rock guitar, which is composed by Michael Giacchino, as with the regular fanfare. Also, the titular character from Ms. Marvel replaces The Hulk's footage.

The Avengers and its sequels:

  • The Avengers (2012):
    • The logo is cut short, and when it is finished, it dissolves into the blue energy from the Tesseract.
  • Avengers: Infinity War (2018):
    • Footage of Iron Man from Iron Man 2 is replaced with Okoye from Black Panther.
  • Avengers: Endgame (2019):
    • The images and script text of the heroes that were exterminated by Thanos by snapping his fingers with his Infinity Gauntlet, causing the Blip, in Avengers: Infinity War are excluded. Some footage displayed in the logo is also changed to correspond with the events of Avengers: Infinity War; the same variant from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was used as the basis. At the end, the gradient red background fades to black, but the "I" and "O" in studios do not turn into the red number 10. The logo then cuts to the movie's second scene.

James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy MCU series:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017):
    • Loki's clip is replaced with one of the titular character from Doctor Strange.
  • The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022, Disney+):
    • This variant is shown after the Special Presentation intro. The comic book panels are replaced by Christmas-themed ones, snow falls when the logo gets to the artwork of the heroes and for the rest of the logo's duration, and the logo itself is bordered with Christmas lights as it zooms out.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023):
    • The logo features quotes/official and concept artwork/clips of the Guardians from the previous films.

Jon Watts' Spider-Man MCU film series (produced by Columbia Pictures):

  • Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017):
    • The Hulk's clip is replaced with one of Spider-Man from Captain America: Civil War, and the fanfare is replaced by an orchestral version of the original 1967 Spider-Man animated series theme, originally composed by Paul Francis Webster and Robert "Bob" Harris; the version used here was composed by Michael Giacchino. This was also the first track of the soundtrack as "Theme from Spider-Man (Original Television Series)". Giacchino posted a behind-the-scenes video of conducting the orchestration part of the theme on his X page, which can be viewed here.
  • Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019):
    • Same as the Spider-Man: Homecoming variant, but the footage of Falcon from Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been replaced by the titular character from Captain Marvel.
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021):
    • Rocket Racoon's footage is replaced with footage of Spider-Man from Avengers: Endgame. The opening dialogue is taken from the mid-credits scene from Spider-Man: Far from Home during the logo, continuing from the Sony/Columbia Pictures logos. Furthermore, the same notes from the fanfare (composed by Michael Giacchino) are heard on a timpani drum, which is the first track of the soundtrack as "Intro to Fake News". At the end, the logo glitches and then cuts to black.

Black Panther (2018) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022):

  • Original release (Black Panther):
    • War Machine's clip from Captain America: Civil War is replaced with Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok.
  • After Chadwick Boseman's death (Black Panther; 2020):
    • On November 29, 2020, which would have been Chadwick Boseman's 44th birthday, the logo was altered on Disney+, using the Phase Four variant as its basis, with the regular montage of heroes replaced with images and videos of him and his character, King T'Challa/Black Panther. The background has been changed to a dark purple gradient. This was also posted by Marvel and Marvel Studios' social pages in its 16:9 format, as well as the 2020 Disney Investor Day, after the cast announcement of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as in which, the president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel, Kevin Feige, announced that Boseman's role as King T'Challa/Black Panther will not be re-casted to honor his legacy, then fades out after the logo is formed to reveal the tentative logo of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the final film of Phase Four, which can be viewed here. This variant was used for the opening of said movie, with the Phase Four enhanced variant as the basis and ambience heard over the logo in order to take a moment of silence for Boseman, and cross-fades from the prologue. The major difference is a behind-the-scenes shot of Boseman and a member of the production staff from the former film, which has been zoomed in to focus on Boseman. On PERCEPTION's YouTube channel, the prologue was removed.

Captain Marvel (2019) and its sequel

  • Captain Marvel (2019):
    • The images of the Marvel superheroes are replaced with those of Stan Lee. Clips of Marvel movies are all also replaced with clips of Lee's various appearances, either from his cameo appearances in Marvel movies or from publicity footage. After the logo finishes, the background fades to black, the logo then fades away two seconds later, and a message appears saying "T H A N K Y O U S T A N". This variant was made as a tribute to Lee, who died a year prior to the film's release aged 96.
  • The Marvels (2023):
    • Some of the clips of the Marvel movies are replaced with clips of the Marvels Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, Maria Rambeau and Kamala Khan.

WandaVision (2021, Disney+):

  • Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience:
    • The logo plays as normal in its Phase Four variant, but near the end, the logo turns black and white and 2D as the aspect ratio shifts from 21:9 to 4:3. At the same time, the sound switches from stereo/surround to an aged mono sound reminiscent of vintage TV recordings.
  • Previously On:
    • The background turns bright purple, similar to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever variant. At the end, the logo dissolves in a burst of magic reminiscent of that used by the series' antagonist, Agatha Harkness.

Loki (2021, Disney+):

  • Normal:
    • As the logo finishes its animation, the logo turns green and gold (Loki's colors), and the background becomes black.
  • For All Time, Always. (Season 1 finale):
    • Sound effects and quotes from various MCU films and series play over the logo.
  • 1893 (Season 2 episode 3):
    • The fanfare is played in a ragtime musical style (composed by Natalie Holt and played by Peter Nickalls), which fits with the episode's 19th-century setting. This was also the seventeenth track of the first volume of the Season 2 soundtrack as "Golden Olden".
  • Heart of the TVA (Season 2 episode 4):
    • The animation is abridged, and the logo is already in Loki's colors when the finished product appears. A few seconds later, the logo starts to shake violently and a vortex appears behind it. The camera then zooms through the logo and into the vortex.
  • On the Season 2 finale, the logo animates in reverse.

What If...? (2021, Disney+) and What If...?: An Immersive Experience (2024; Apple Vision Pro):

  • The logo starts out normally but once it reaches its final position, its design turns into one reminiscent of the animation style of the show.
  • On the Season 2 finale, different variants of the Marvel heroes traditionally seen in the logo (Iron Man's Sakaar armor, Happy Hogan as the Freak, Ravager T'Challa, Goliath, Kahhori, Red Guardian, Captain Carter) are present, while clips from both seasons prior to this episode are shown. On PERCEPTION's YouTube channel, the logo uses an earlier version of the fanfare.
  • On What If...? An Immersive Story on the Apple Vision Pro, the later variant of the logo is entirely recreated by ILM Immersive, under supervision of PERCEPTION, using Unreal Engine 5, to make it entirely immersive in real time at 90fps and is superimposed within the user's vision shown on the device, along with the user's virtual hands, following the first part of the logo's animation. All of the clips are entirely pre-rendered and are taken from the the logo itself. The only major differences are the lighting and the clips fading entirely to red instead of just slowly fading to red. Once the logo finishes, it fades out in a similar fashion to how it transitions to the same animation style as the show. Furthermore, a loading screen shows the logo on a black background and is improvised under a multiverse shard.

Eternals (2021)

  • The comic book panels show snippets of the Celestials and some of the Eternals. After it finishes, the logo cuts to the opening scene.

Moon Knight (2022, Disney+):

  • The Hulk's footage is replaced with footage of the titular team from Eternals.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022):

  • Some clips of the Marvel movies are replaced with only clips of Doctor Strange from various films, and clips of Wanda from the WandaVision episode, The Series Finale.

Ms. Marvel (2022, Disney+):

  • Normal:
    • The Doctor Strange footage from Avengers: Infinity War is replaced by that of him in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Moon Knight from the ending of his self-titled show's first episode, The Goldfish Problem, replaces Shang-Chi.
  • Generation Why:
    • The logo becomes decorated into what would be shown in the episode's intro, with Kamala Khan's hands making the logo, as the background changes to her desk, before the camera pans down while she narrates.
  • Time and Again:
    • When the logo gets to the film footage, it turns sepia and the quality becomes grainy as it moves down, much like a reel change on a 1900s-era projector. Then, the logo changes aspect ratio from 21:9 to open matte 4:3 before switching over to newsreel footage of India's independence on August 17, 1942.

I Am Groot (2022, Disney+):

  • Season 1:
    • The logo begins like usual, but after a few seconds, Groot's hand is seen with a player remote, hitting the fast forward button, speeding up the logo and the standard music and as the logo is almost in its position, he hits the play button off-screen and the logo goes to its normal speed, changing into its What If...? version as it does so. Groot then peeks the screen and hits it. According to PERCEPTION, they took three fast forwarding effect tests to create a custom fast-forwarded variant of the logo for this short series. These can be seen on PERCEPTION's YouTube channel, all without audio, here, here and here. However, different sound effects were used on PERCEPTION's social pages instead of the one shown on Disney+.
  • Season 2:
    • Same concept as usual, this time in a modern-day streaming style. A progress bar and rewind and play icons (almost looking identical to the ones seen on Disney+) appear on the bottom of the screen, while the logo is dimmed, as soon as Groot hits the fast forward button. The logo is then stopped at 4 seconds, with still snippets of the logo being shown every two seconds while fast-forwarding, then Groot hits the play button off-screen at 36 seconds (which is the same time as the end of the usual length). As it does, a loading icon, similar to the same icon that appears on Disney+, appears briefly, before it resumes to that point, then both it and the UI disappear, and the logo becomes undimmed. The fanfare is abridged, stopping before - and resuming after - Groot fast-forwards the logo, and he is heard humming during this part.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022, Disney+):

  • Normal:
    • The footage of Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is replaced by that of Jane Foster/Mighty Thor from Thor: Love and Thunder. On PERCEPTION's YouTube channel, the logo uses an earlier version of the fanfare.
  • Whose Show is This? (Season 1 finale):
    • After the logo finishes its animation, it glitches, with the fanfare being cut off before the final note, and the aspect ratio changes from 21:9 to 4:3, with the word "DANGER", before it cuts to the opening of the episode, which homages the intro of the 1978 TV series, The Incredible Hulk.
    • Throughout the same episode, the finished product of the logo, switching from the archival footage of the MCU films and again from a shot from the same episode, appears behind the AI, K.E.V.I.N. (Knowledge Enhanced Visual Interconnectivity Nexus), a nod to Feige, inside the Marvel Studios headquarters at the second floor of the Frank G. Wells Building at the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California, after switching from her show in the Marvel hub on Disney+ to Marvel Studios: Assembled. A snippet of the fanfare is audibly heard when Jen enters the area that plays MCU films where K.E.V.I.N. is at. It was worth noting that the logo (shown in a 3D pop out within a large red rectangle) can also be found in the wall-to-wall mural of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Furthermore, the print logo is shown in a TV that is placed on an office wall.

Werewolf by Night (2022, Disney+):

  • The logo plays as normal, following the Special Presentation intro, but before the logo gets to the artwork of the heroes, claw marks appear in the middle, the logo turns black and white and speeds up briefly, and the music is rearranged (by Michael Giacchino, who also directed the special), with the intro part being in its normal version. The claw marks and speed changes reappear twice after that, once when the artwork of Thor appears and the other before the logo finishes its animation. When the logo does finish its animation, the text turns white and 2D and glows before electric bolts appear on it and four lightning bolts strike, finishing the logo while the music segues into the opening theme. This was also the first part of the second track of the TV special's soundtrack, entitled "Mane Title".
  • The feature was re-released in color in October 2023, and the logo too appeared in color.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023):

  • A variant of Kang, He Who Remains from Loki, is briefly seen in the A of the "MARVEL" part of the logo.

Echo (2024):

  • Normal:
    • The logo is light gray on a black background and looks a bit grungy. Also, it slowly zooms in. After that, the Marvel Spotlight intro is shown.
  • Tuklo:
    • The logo is black and white and it appears as part of the silent-film prologue.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024):

  • Some clips of Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds) are briefly seen. The first clip has Captain America's shield flying above Deadpool as he's ducking, then sees it when he rises, as a nod to the 3D version of the logo. As the logo progresses, Deadpool is heard humming along to the fanfare, then later says, "That logo music just gets you pumped, right?". As the logo finishes its animation, the background gains the texture of Deadpool's costume, "MARVEL" turns red, and "STUDIOS" turns yellow (the respective colors of Deadpool and Wolverine, the titular characters), resembling the variant seen in the movie's second trailer, albeit in a rusted style similar to the film's logo.
  • This was also shown at the start of the Marvel Studios segment during the Disney Entertainment Showcase event at the 2024 D23, which was zoomed out near the end to fit the monitor on the middle of the stage and stays for a few more seconds while Deadpool was talking.
