Melissa Liones (メリッサ・ライオネス Raionesu Merissa) is the fifth princess of Liones, a platinum-ranked holy knight, and the long-lost sister of Margaret, Veronica, and Elizabeth Liones. She is also the 98th reincarnation of the Demon Princess Melissa, the sister of Meliodas and Zeldris.

Appearance[]

Melissa is a pretty young woman with a tall stature and thin body, she has layered blond hair that's parted in the middle and emerald eyes adorned by thick, long lashes. She also sports a black bow on the back of her head.

Despite being the biological daughter of Bartra Liones, Melissa doesn't share the same eye or hair color with any of her parents or siblings. And rather, she maintains the same appearance as the demon princess Melissa.

As a holy knight, she wore a black one piece undershirt, which extends out to her hands and act as sleeveless gloves. On top of that, she wears a decorated armored breastplate, an armored collar plate, layered with a dark sea-blue cape, and blue necklace, imprinted with the Liones family crest . For her bottom, she wears a short soft light green skirt, which is visible underneath a longer leather-like skirt that is open on the front.

As a princess, she wears an off-shoulder emerald green dress, with golden patterns on the top, paired up with emerald earrings.

During her days with the Seven deadly sins, her attire is a sleeveless, collared shirt and white pants.

When accessing her demon powers, her demon mark becomes visible. Her mark consists of an elongated star pointing downward with a widened base over a square stylized star with curved sides flanked by four curved rectangular shapes angled in on either side.

Personality[]

Melissa is a kind woman with a calm and composed demeanor, who always keeps a smile on her face. She is generally level-headed and calm in dangerous situations, she never shows that she is in panic and keeps an emotionless face, making her very unpredictable.

She had grown with the Elf clan ever since she was little after being lost in their territory, despite this, the elves have treated her with love and care. After the elves were wiped out by demons, Melissa had survived with the help of her adoptive elf family who had died during the ambush. This fueled her hate towards demons so much that she joined the Holy Knights to get revenge of her loss.

As an adoptive member of the Elf Clan, she had been taught the fundamentals of swordsmanship by her adoptive father, Patry and was then improved and further honed by Deathpierce. Melissa has also proven to be a very talented and powerful swordsman after making her way to the Holy Knight Sapphire Rank.

Melissa also has a love for knowledge evident from the overflowing book collection she has in her room in the castle. She is also well-aware of the things around her, she can easily sense if someone is in love and her deductions are usually never wrong.

She is confident with both her abilities and skills though she is prone to become underestimated because of her youthful look and smile but, it has been stated by both Ban and Arden that Melissa is actually a hundred times tougher than she looks.

As the reincarnation of Meliodas's twin sister, when truly angered, Melissa can appear harsh and unforgiving.

Moreover, she is rather fond of animals, advocating for their well-being and indulging them with toys (her favorite animal is cats) Though she claims to be an introvert, she actually is very good at meeting new people and building connections with them, as seen during her first meeting with her siblings.

Before regaining her memories, she is shown to be bubbly around her friends and loves teasing them yet after turning 16 and remembering her past, Melissa distances herself from potential lovers to avoid finding and falling in love again with Simeon's incarnated body, making her much more colder to other people. This is because of the curse that was bestowed upon her by the Supreme Diety herself.

History[]

Melissa is the 98th reincarnation of the Demon princess, Melissa, since the Holy war.

When Melissa was a toddler, she got kidnapped by a member of the vampire clan, yet after passing through the elf clan's territory, Melissa was saved by Patry, the elf who had raised her along with two of his elf children and wife. Despite being human, her adoptive family had treated her with love and care. She has gotten fond of her siblings and was shown to be very hyperactive as a child. Yet, those days of pure happiness have come to an end after demons had attacked their clan. Because of this, the only one who had managed to survive was Melissa.

Melissa had grown hatred towards the demon clan and vowed to herself that she would someday get revenge, at the age of 10 she was adopted by Deathpierce because of her incredible swordsmanship and offered to train her to become a Holy Knight and a member of the Pleiades of the Azure Sky. Because of her talent, she was moved from the sub faction and placed along with Gilthunder, Griamore, Guila, and the others.

After being promoted to the Sapphire rank, Barta notices her necklace which was designed by the Liones Family Crest and revealed that she was in fact his daughter who went missing, explaining that he had been looking for her throughout the years. She was then welcomed into the Royal Family, yet she decided to still continue being a Holy Knight to be able to keep her vow.

As she turned 16, her memories of her past lives begins coming back to to her as she remembers the curse given to her by the Demon King when she had betrayed the demon clan to side with both Meliodas and Elizabeth. As an avatar of Wrath, she is forbidden to seek and find true love, specifically, the love she shares with Simeon. The curse also makes sure that she meets Simeon's reincarnation and falls in love with it. Yet unlike Elizabeth, Simeon takes the appearance of different people, having his soul share a body with another being, making it harder for Melissa to identify which body he was staying in.

Abilities and Equipment[]

Due to being the current reincarnation of the Demon King's extremely powerful daughter, Melissa possessed immense magic powers. Like the other members of the demon clan, she possesses the mysterious jet-black power of darkness which she can use for a variety of purposes, such as forming wings to fly. She is also able to use Word Soul, the power originally used by the demon princess herself, the ability to generate or create something through speech and manipulate it through hand movements. During the alliance of Stigma and the Seven Deadly Sins, Melissa aids the alliance and effortlessly counters the Hellblaze techniques.

Abilities[]

• Word Soul 「 言葉の魂 Kotoba no tamashī; Kotodama」: this ability enables Melissa to generate or create something through speech and manipulate it through hand movements. Melissa can also use speech to heal injuries, and even control other people and their powers. While the exact limits are not currently known, Melissa cannot directly command a non-plant living being to die, and the amount of power used affects the range and how much it can counter other attacks. This power cannot block Full Counter even though it can affect other powerful attributes.

• Hellblaze「 ヘルブレイズ Herubureizu; literally meaning "Hellfire"」: A mysterious ability possessed by Melissa that allows her to generate black flames. It also has the additional effect of nullifying an immortal's regeneration.
• Assault Mode「 アサルトモード Asaruto Mōdo」: This state is reached when Melissa unleashes her demon powers to the fullest, achieving immense powers. This form also allows Melissa to access her full power, back in the days when she was still in command of the Ten Commandments.
• Avidya Slash 「 アビディアスラッシュ Abidiasurasshu」: Melissa uses this technique by channeling darkness unto her sword and releases that darkness with a slash that flies at the opponent. The wave of darkness retains the same sharpness as an edged weapon and also has the ability to absorb other spells, such as Light Magic, while in mid-flight.
• Avidya Wild Slash 「 アビディアワイルドスラッシュ Abidiawairudosurasshu」: Melissa coats her sword in darkness and swings it in a disorderly fashion, creating multiple Avidya Slashes.

Weapons[]

• Katana: Like her original incarnation, Melissa wields a katana, a curved, single-edged blade with a circular or squared guard and long grip to accommodate two hands. She uses it as a medium to channel her darkness and release it unto the opponent.

Melissa's power increases in stages as the story progresses and is increased further whenever she utilizes her demon powers.

Deathpierce

Melissa sees Deathpierce as a respectable human being, a father-figure who had saved and fostered her after the death of her adoptive elf family, giving her shelter when she had no where else to go. Deathpierce was amazed by Melissa's combat skills and incredible swordsmanship, this leading to him training her to become one of the members of the holy knights, in the sub-faction, Pleiades of the Azure Sky.

Arden[]

Despite having a a four-year age gap, both are shown very good friends. She also loves teasing Arden, leading him to being flustered. Though, Arden finds Melissa cute, it is not clear if whether he has romantic feelings for her. Arden is also the one who had taught Melissa how to use the bow.

Deldry[]

Melissa and Deldry are shown very close as well despite the age gap, they are seen talking about boys as Deldry is hoping to marry a man whom she truly loves. Melissa is also aware of Deldry's feelings towards Arden even though they are siblings.

Seven Deadly Sins Meliodas[]

Despite being the reincarnation of Meliodas's twin sister, it seems that both of them couldn't figure out who the other one was, yet they were baffled by the fact that they looked similar to each other. They first met after Melissa had stumbled upon the boar hat, which she usually goes to on her days off, not because of the food but, because the place makes her relaxed and feel at ease. Melissa sees Meliodas like a brother, a family member in which she never had after moving from one place to another. After regaining her memories at the age of 16, she doesn't remember Meliodas nor Elizabeth, only that she and Simeon had been cursed with eternal reincarnation. Which makes her colder towards other people, other than Meliodas since she doesn't see Simeon in him and he makes her feel like she had known her before. It was also explained by Elizabeth that the had curse prohibited them from remembering each other unless Melissa accesses her demon form and power.

Diane[]

Unlike how Diane had thought of Elizabeth when meeting her for the first time, Diane had thought that Melissa was Meliodas's long-lost sister because of the similarities in this appearance. Because of this, Diane had shown Melissa with kindness and respect as a family member of their captain. Melissa is also well-aware of Diane's feelings towards Meliodas

Merlin[]

As a bookworm herself who is experienced different types of magic whilst living with the elves, Melissa is knowledgeable about magic and helps Merlin on her research. It has also been revealed that Melissa and Merlin we're acquaintances back 3,000 years ago along with Meliodas, Elizabeth, and Simeon, she calls her "Big Sis", calling Elizabeth "Big Sis Sis".

King[]

Melissa and King share a good friendship, as seen when both of them had worked together to face off Chandler to protect Meliodas. It is also shown that King cares for Melissa as seen when she had chased after her after revealing her demon form and mark and flying off to get revenge on Cusack after using his commandment Resonant to make Arthur stab himself using the Excalibur. However, after finding out Melissa was the reincarnation of a former member of the Demon Clan and later finding out she relates to the Ten Commandments, King starts to gradually, but greatly questions her true nature and whether or not she is actually on their side.

Ban[]

Ban is shown as Melissa's closest friend in the Seven Deadly Sins. Similar to Meliodas, she doesn't see him in any romantic light despite being around him often. Melissa loves Ban's cooking and asks him if she could teach her to cook as well. Yet, just like Meliodas, she is as bad of a cook as him. Both of them share a good bond and are extremely friendly with each other, both having friendly fights. It has also been revealed that Ban and Melissa had met when they were little after he had stumbled upon the Elf clan, looking for food. Melissa then approaches him with food and talks to him, Ban had also stated that at some point before, she had developed affection for Melissa but it had gradually faded through the years after they had went separate ways after her clan were wiped out by demons. When Ban accepted the request from the Goddess Clan to kill her and Meliodas, Melissa was downhearted and annoyed at Ban's reckless nature for accepting this. However, once she found out the true reason behind this, Melissa accepts her death she knows how he feels and might have done the same thing if it meant breaking the curse and reuniting with Simeon, but Hawks stopped them.

Escanor[]

There are little interactions between Melissa and Escanor but, they are seen on good terms. Though sometimes, Melissa is annoyed by his arrogance whenever he's in his stronger form, she respects him and recognizes the incredible power that he possesses.

Gowther[]

Melissa and Gowther share a good friendship, though she was upset when Gowther erased Guila and Diane's memories. But after Gowther's emotions and memories had returned, she was genuinely happy for him, both have been good friends and allies ever since being members of the Demon Clan and the Ten Commandments.

Barta Liones[]

After it was revealed that Barta was her biological father, she was confused as to why she ended up in the Elf Clan, thinking she has been abandoned by him. Though her questions were answered after Barta reasons out that she had gotten missing when she was younger and that he had been looking for her thoughout the years. Though Melissa was uncomfortable at first, throughout the years, she started warming up to him and treats him with respect.

Margaret Liones[]

Upon meeting her the first time, Margaret hugs her tightly saying that she had missed her. She had also claimed that she had been the one taking care of her when she was still a baby, and was heartbroken after knowing Melissa's sudden disappearance.

Veronica Liones[]

As individuals who are fond of sword fighting and combat, Melissa sees Veronica not only as a sister but also a training partner and a friend. Melissa had also taught her the basic fundamentals of sword fighting and other techniques she could use in combat. They also spend their time bonding in hot springs along with Guila.

Elizabeth Liones[]

During their first meeting 3,000 years ago, Melissa didn't like the fact that Meliodas was in love with her, because she was a part of the goddess clan. Yet, after getting to know her and meeting her lover that was from the goddess clan as well. It made her see things in a new light as the wrath in her heart gradually fades. Ever since then, Melissa had treated Elizabeth with kindness and so did she, this leading them to a beautiful friendship where she was even ready to sacrifice herself on one point of the battle to protect her during the Holy War. As reincarnations, and even before knowing that Elizabeth was her sister, she respected Elizabeth as both a princess and a friend. They are seen talking to each other as Melissa teases her of her feelings with Meliodas, and telling her that she can sense both Diane and Merlin having feelings for Meliodas as well. Elizabeth then asks her if she has the same feelings for him too but Melissa denies it with now hesitation and tells her that she doesn't see Meliodas in a romantic light but rather as a brother. This leads to Elizabeth speculating if Meliodas and Melissa were actually siblings.

Hawk[]

Melissa and Hawk have a good friendship. Melissa is fond of Hawk and takes his energy very contagious. They had also met after Melissa had stumbled on the Boar Hat and was shocked to find a talking pig. Hawk also respects Melissa and was shocked after seeing her incredible powers, saying that she could be mistaken or become part of the 7 Deadly Sins. Melissa also admires Hawk's bravery, when she had managed to help protect Elizabeth from posing threats. Hawk also shows that he cares for Melissa as seen where he had stopped Ban from killing both Melissa and Meliodas.

Hawk Mama

Though they have less interactions, they seem to be on good terms as seen when Melissa had complemented Hawk Mama's powers and strength when they were ambushed by the demon clan.

Elaine[]

After knowing about Ban and Elaine's tragic love story and how much Elaine loved Ban during their meeting at the Capital of the Dead, Melissa had respected her and thought of her as a good ally. They are also seen talking and teasing Ban over things. Elaine also took a liking to Melissa because of her kind and strong personality. They develop a good friendship and sometimes talk about their love interests, Elaine had also said that she'd support her in breaking her curse.

Gilthunder[]

Before, Melissa sees Gilthunder having a cruel nature and despised some of his actions, but she did recognize his incredible talents and abilities. After the events with Hendrickson. Gilthunder and Melissa are know seen in good terms and friends, they are able to work and support each other in battles.

Howzer[]

Melissa thinks Howzer is one of the best Holy Knights because of his humble and friendly personality. She also recognizes his abilities and skills, she had also congratulated him when he had moved up the ranks as a great holy knight.

Guila[]

Though they were supposed to be friends as Holy Knights, Melissa was annoyed by the fact that Guila did not hesitate from killing her when they were ordered to kill the Seven Deadly Sins. Though, in the long run, Melissa forgave her and they ended up being good friends

Arthur Pendragon[]

At first Melissa had admired Arthur's skills and good personality yet after sensing how much Arthur reminded her of Simeon, she tried her best to stay distant to Arthur because she did not want to suffer again and get him killed because of the curse bestowed upon her. Arthur's personality reflected so much of Simeon that she can't help but fall for him. Melissa deeply cares about Arthur and thinks that he is different from the Simeon's other reincarnations making her more protective of him. But, even though how much Melissa would stay away from him, the curse always made ways to get them to become more closer to each other and this feared her. When Arthur had later confessed his feelings to Melissa, she became very happy, but at the same time she became afraid, afraid that she'd see him die. Because of this, she rejected Arthur's confessions. After knowing that Arthur had went to Meliodas and Zeldris to retrieve the Excaliber, Melissa became so worried that something might happen to him. As Arthur went back to the Boar Hat holding the Excaliber, Melissa was relieved to find him alive and began to tend his injuries. When suddenly, Arthur had stabbed himself with the Excaliber. In that time, Melissa had known that it was Chusack's Commandment Resonant because of the markings. This made her go on rampage, changing to her demon form and flying off to Chusack to get revenge.
