Mint Mobile Recently Suffered a Security Breach (2024)

It looks like Mint Mobile recently suffered a security breach and information including the names, phone numbers, email addresses, and SIM and IMEI numbers of customers was leaked.

The carrier did not post about the breach on any of its social channels and instead notified affected customers via email. One of those customers posteda screen grab of the email on Reddit, which wasspotted by The Verge.

According to the email, Mint recently identified a security incident where “an unauthorized actor obtained some limited types of customer information.”

The email goes on to say that since the carrier doesn’t collect customers' birth dates, Social Security numbers, or driver's license numbers, there is no risk of that information being exposed. The company says it also does not store credit card information and protects passwords with “strong cryptographic technology” so those were not compromised either.

The company says it has “resolved the underlying issue” and also partnered with “independent security experts to ensure that we are taking all appropriate steps to protect against this kind of incident in the future.”

If you were impacted, you should have received a notification email from “[emailprotected].” Many impacted customers in the Reddit thread report that emails are going to spam, so you may want to check there as well.

In the email, Mint says there are no actions customers need to take at this time.
