I am able to set up the Documents folder on Drive D. I then move “all” from the C drive location to the new D drive. But in the old location I am showing a Recovery Bin and I cannot delete it or the “parent” old Documents folder.
How do I fix this?
Edit: I got it. I was trying to do it in DOS, but through Explorer the deletion worked fine.

You might have corrupted your profile by doing this. Document is a system folder, which should never be deleted. What you should do is right click on that folder, choose Properties, select Location and then click Move. You can then choose the new Document folder you created on Drive D. And that’s it.

Alex, so far it seems that I escaped corruption.
Andy, the Documents folder in my User folder seems file.
I was able to delete the said folders by doing so in explorer, and NOT in command.com or CMD.exe.
So, ..
That all is OK, and now I am looking again at changing the User icon without resorting to a shortcut. The shortcut works, but then, it’s not REALLY changing the user folder icon.
I tried the workaround that CyberSar gave me ( https://tinyl.io/ANxy) but for whatever reason I can’t get it to quite work…
Sigh…

Try this. In desktop icon settings you can change icon for user account folder

By default, any document you create withMicrosoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) will be saved to the original Documents folder on the C: drive. What will happen if Office does not find that folder because you deleted it, I don’t know. Like I said, the proper way to do this is changing the location in the properties of the Documents folder on the C: drive. Since you did not do that, you might have to go into Microsoft Office settings and change the default locations for any file you create with that suite.

I don’t trust Microsoft with “moving” these folders e.g update to 1809 were many users lost all data in the “moved” folders.
It happens once, it may happen again.

Could be, but it’s even worse to just “delete” a system folder, considering all applications will look for that default folder to save files. For my part, I’ve created data partitions on 4 different Windows laptops or PCs (3 W10 and 1 W11), and I changed the location of the Documents folder through the properties of folder. Never had a problem.

I haven’t advised to delete system folders but to move the data to new folders on D, leaving original empty folders in place.
This is what I do on my PC.

I know you did not advise deleting the folder. But that’s what CWBillow says he did. And I’m pretty sure that’s not a good thing and could corrupt his profile. Plus, he has to be aware that Microsoft Office will try to save his files to the original Documents folder, unless he changes the settings in all the relevant applications.

I do this on every new windows build. As suggested, move the contents, but do not delete the original folders – they just sit there unused.
