Mushroom Grow Bags - Shiny Spores (2024)

Our Inject and Forget bags are one of the biggest selling kits on our website, and here’s why…

Easy and simple to use.

Simply inoculate your bag, give it a mix and lie it on its side in a nice, warm place. Keep it in the dark for 2-3 weeks until it’s fully cultivated and then move it into low light conditions when it’s ready to fruit.

Protected from contamination.

Unlike other kits, you do not need to fan or mist the bag. This heavily reduces the chances of contamination occurring in your bag! It’s an almost fully automatic process.

Perfect for Beginners

With simple, easy to follow instructions allowing you to inject and forget your project until it’s ready to fruit, this kit is perfect for beginners.

Quick results

For beginners and experts alike, this kit provides quick results. Within 2-3 weeks you’ll have a fully cultivated bag, then in a few additional weeks you’ll be having your first harvest. All without any spraying, misting or lifting so much as a finger. This whole process takes around 35-45 days from inoculation to your first harvest of Gourmet Health Mushrooms.

Multiple Flushes

This bag is not a one and done kit. You should get 2-3 harvests from each inject and forget bag you inoculate with your gourmet health mushroom spores. It’s as simple as adding a cup full of water and sealing the bag back up again with our large easy glide bag sealer! It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

1. Start off by preparing your work surface. Give it a wipe down with some 70% Isopropyl Alcohol Spray. Using an incubation chamber? Give it a wipe down too! Let these surfaces dry and do not spray anything near/on your inject and forget bag as it could damage the integrity of the filter patch.

2. Turn on your heat source and ensure it gets up to temperature. Your project should be kept between 26-27c. If using one of our 60L all in one fruiting and incubator’s, you don’t need to change any settings as it come’s preset. Simply plug in and play!

3. Wash your hands then remove your bag from its protective outer plastic bag. Be careful not to touch the air filter too much as the oils from your hands can affect its integrity.

4. Pop your Gourmet Health Mushroom syringe out of its silver foil packet, keeping the end cap secured until you’re ready to use the syringe.

5. Open your needle packet from the top, remove the end cap from your needle and insert the syringe into the needle, careful not to trigger the plunger early. Keep the protective cap on the needle until you’re ready to inoculate (we’re not there yet!).

6. Take out your alcohol wipe that comes with your bag and wipe the injection port of your bag (the small grey square sealed in plastic). You do not need to wipe or heat the needle as it’s a gamma irradiated, NHS grade needle. Therefore, sterilizing it further can cause contamination. Leave this to dry for a few seconds.

7. Gently shake your syringe against your hand to shake up the spores. No spores should be left behind!

8. Once you feel ready, take the protective cap off the end of the needle, and inoculate the bag. Ensure to tilt the syringe so it’s slightly angled downwards as you press the needle into the injection port, stopping halfway into the port. Push down the plunger and release your spores into the bag. If your plunger is stuck, slowly pull your syringe out (but don’t remove it from the port) and push the plunger down again.

9. Pull the needle out and give your bag 5-6 seconds for the self-healing injection port to seal before giving your bag a gentle, but thorough, mix. It might be a bit tough as our bags come straight out of the pressure cooker to your door. Therefore, it may be beneficial to smush it between your legs before moving the substrate around with your hands.

10. After mixing, place your bag on the heat mat horizontally, on its longest side with the air filter and injection port facing the wall not the ceiling. This will ensure a speedy grow.

11. Put your project in complete darkness and leave it for 2-3 weeks until it’s fully cultivated with healthy, white mycelium. If it’s being slow but mycelium is present, gently break up the mycelium and redistribute it within the substrate.

12. Once your project has fully cultivated, you must keep it in the heat, but move it into indirect, low light conditions. Too much light can damage your project. If you’re using artificial light, make sure you don’t have it directly facing your project. If you’re worried about whether your project is too dark/light, pop us an email with some photos at [emailprotected]. We’d be more than happy to help!

Once your project is moved into the light and pins are starting to rear their little heads, it’s almost ready to harvest your gourmet health mushrooms! It’s unlikely your mushrooms will mature all at the same time as this is an organic process. However, it’s incredibly important to harvest them before they fully mature and release their spores as that can cause contamination and bring an early end to your project. So, make sure to pick any mushrooms that are ready to pop their hoods whenever they pop up!

Make sure you harvest them between stage 3-4 to ensure your mushrooms don’t drop their spores!

Ensure you re-seal your bag with a large easy glide bag sealer if you’d like to get multiple flushes out of your bag!

It takes only three steps to promote a further flush (harvest) of your bag. Simply follow these steps below and you’ll have more gourmet health mushrooms in no time:

1. After your bag’s growth has stopped, simply open the bag and add a cup full of cold tap water to the bag. Let this sit (ensure it’s sealed) for 12 hours.

2. After 12 hours, slowly drain the water from the bag over the space of half an hour. Keep it at an angle to allow for the water to run out from the project.

3. Place this bag (sealed) in the exact same conditions you had it in before for it to fruit successfully. Wait 7-14 days and you should have the start of another flush.

Rinse and repeat!

FAQs

How do you use a shiny spores grow bag? ›

In a sterile environment, inject your spores into the bag and incubate in the dark. After injection, place your bag within an incubator & fruiting chamber. Signs of life within your bag should appear within 7-10 days.

What is the white stuff in my mushroom bag? ›

Mycelium. As the vegetative part of fungi, mycelium consists of a network of thin, branching filaments called 'hyphae. ' In nature, mycelium is unseen as it exists below ground or inside decaying wood. In home cultivation, it's the white-ish growth we see on substrate blocks, plates, and jars.

What is the yellow liquid in my mushroom grow bag? ›

The yellow liquid patches are metabolites; which are a bi-product from the enzymes breaking down the substrate. These are sometimes produced to help fight-off an unwanted contaminant within the bag. If you see this, there is no need to worry as it is perfectly normal.

Why is there condensation in my mushroom grow bag? ›

A: Some condensation is normal. Especially if the substrate is exposed to high or low temperatures during transit. It should disappear when the bag is mixed.

Does spore bag need sunlight? ›

Storage & Colonization

Allow your bag to colonize undisturbed and out of direct sunlight. Temperature for incubation shouldn't exceed 75 degrees F or dip below 55 degrees F.

What does mold look like in a mushroom grow bag? ›

The most common mould you will encounter is the green variety, so you would usually see a patch of green rather than the white of the mushroom mycelium. There are varieties of mould that are white, but generally, any white you see growing will be the mushroom.

How can you tell if a mushroom bag is bad? ›

The number one rule of thumb when it comes to detecting freshness is that when mushrooms are slimy, they're no longer ideal for use. Sliminess occurs when mushrooms have been stored incorrectly or allowed to linger in the fridge for too long— it's a clear sign that the mushrooms are beginning to spoil.

What does a contaminated mushroom bag look like? ›

If you spot green, blue, gray, or black patches, your culture is most likely contaminated. However, keep in mind that blue stains on the mycelium may just be bruising and not mould, especially if the grain presses the mycelium against the glass jars and plastic bags or tubs.

Should I shake my mushroom grow bag? ›

Gently knead and shake your bag to break up the mycelium until it's evenly distributed throughout the bag. After shaking the bag, place it back in storage under the same conditions as before for about another week or two, so it can finish colonizing.

Can you reuse mushroom grow bags? ›

Yes, you can most definitely reuse mushroom grow kits! Mushroom grow kits are generally designed to give you more than one harvest depending on the species of mushroom inside your growing kit. There is enough water nutrition available in the substrate to give you multiple harvests over a period of 2-10 weeks.

Do mushroom grow bags need air? ›

The filter allows for the mushroom cultures inside the bag to receive fresh air without passing contaminants like mold spores and bacteria. Without fresh air, the mushroom culture would eventually stop growing, but if the bag were just left open after sterilization, contaminates would quickly take over.

Do grow bags get moldy? ›

It is possible but rare to have mold issues in grow bags. If this is the case, you may want to reconsider your growing medium or the frequency of watering.

Do mushroom grow bags expire? ›

All in one mushroom grow bags: Leave in original packaging. Store your all in one grow bag in a cool and dry location. All in one grow bags can keep for up to 3 months in these conditions. There will be no need to rehydrated or sterilize the products a second time.

When should I open my mushroom grow bag? ›

When To Open. A grow kit generally requires two to three weeks from its production date to colonize fully. Once the mushrooms fruit, tiny mushroom pins begin forming. Opening the bag then not only offers you substantial airflow but also gives the mushrooms room to grow.

How do you use a grow bag? ›

Just put them directly on the soil, fill and plant them as usual. To create a raised garden bed out of grow bags, you can place them on the ground. First, put down a cardboard base, open up the grow bag, fill with soil and plant with vegetables, herbs and flowers.

How do you use shiny spores inject and forget? ›

Easy and simple to use.

Simply inoculate your bag, give it a mix and lie it on its side in a nice, warm place. Keep it in the dark for 2-3 weeks until it's fully cultivated and then move it into low light conditions when it's ready to fruit.
