A bold new initiative has been launched in Singapore to tackle a pressing issue: helping workers find jobs closer to home, within their own communities. This innovative approach aims to bridge the gap between job seekers and local employers, offering a fresh perspective on employment opportunities.

The initiative, led by the five Community Development Councils (CDCs), is designed to address the specific needs of job seekers, such as balancing work and family responsibilities or accessing flexible work arrangements. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong highlighted that jobs are a top concern for Singaporeans, and this initiative aims to provide tailored support.
"We recognize that national efforts alone are insufficient. Community initiatives are crucial to complement our national strategies," Mr. Wong emphasized.
The Jobs Nearby @ CDC initiative was launched on October 23, 2025, and it's an ambitious project. Each district will have its own job bank, separate from the national one, allowing residents to find local opportunities, including full-time, part-time, and flexible roles.

Job ambassadors will be deployed to provide personalized assistance, guiding residents through the entire job-seeking process. Additionally, community job clinics will be set up in familiar heartland spaces, connecting job seekers directly with employers.
Mr. Wong explained that these community efforts will work in harmony with national initiatives like SkillsFuture and Workforce Singapore, ensuring a comprehensive approach to employment support.
"Singapore's economy is vulnerable to global fluctuations. We must be proactive in navigating these changes and ensuring our people are supported," he said.
The initiative also addresses the impact of new technologies like AI, which are reshaping business processes and job requirements.

The government is committed to strengthening the economy and ensuring Singaporeans have the skills to adapt to changing demands. This includes expanding SkillsFuture to help Singaporeans reskill and upskill, and enhancing career counseling services for fresh graduates.
The CDCs, led by Mayor Low Yen Ling, are dedicated to empowering individuals and organizations to actively participate in building a "We First" society, as envisioned by Mr. Wong during this year's National Day Rally.
"By supporting volunteerism and community development, we can bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, improving livelihoods and sustaining local businesses," Ms. Low stated.
