Google’s new moon was previouslya gray circle with a yellow outline. Samsung’s design once resembled a full moon with stars and previously displayed as a new moon in a night sky with stars.
New Moon was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 under the name "New Moon Symbol" and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
