Dangote, a Nigerian entrepreneur, announced plans to significantly expand the capacity of his privately-run refinery, increasing production from 650,000 barrels per day to an impressive 1.4 million. This expansion will surpass India's Jamnagar Refinery, currently holding the global top spot.

However, recent strikes and labor disputes have marred the refinery's progress. In September, a fuel tanker drivers' union went on strike, accusing the refinery of hiring new drivers on the condition they didn't join a union. The refinery denied these allegations, but the strike lasted for two days before government mediation resolved the issue.
Additionally, the PENGASSAN oil and gas workers' union accused the refinery of firing 800 local workers for unionizing and replacing them with workers from India. The refinery refuted these claims, stating that terminations were due to acts of sabotage.
Despite these challenges, Dangote expressed gratitude to the federal government for its role in mediating disruptions at the refinery.
According to OPEC, Nigeria pumps an average of 1.5 million barrels of oil per day, but it still falls short of its two million bpd target.
