Nike's 3D Printing Revolution: The Air Max 95000 and Project Nectar
Nike, the iconic sportswear brand, is making waves in the footwear industry with its innovative 3D printing technology, Project Nectar. This cutting-edge project is a collaboration with Zellerfeld, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in shoe design. The result? The Air Max 95000, a futuristic take on the beloved Air Max 95.
The Air Max 95000 continues the legacy of the 'Big Bubble' Air Max 95, but with a twist. It introduces Project Nectar, a 3D printing technology that allows for intricate details and a unique aesthetic. The shoe's upper features a striking line, reminiscent of its predecessor, and the logos and outsole showcase the tech's capabilities. The outsole, in particular, is designed for enhanced durability and traction, ensuring a comfortable and reliable performance.
One of the standout features is the midsole's Air configuration, with the 'Big Bubble' unit at the heel and a smaller one at the forefoot. However, these 'bubbles' are actually Air Zoom, a modern upgrade from the original Air technology used 30 years ago. This innovation ensures a more responsive and comfortable ride.
Brittany Shelton, Nike's vice president of North America Brand Management, expressed her excitement about the project: "We never could have achieved this silhouette with traditional methods. This design, with its sculptural contours and futuristic Air application, marks the beginning of a multi-year journey with Zellerfeld and the endless possibilities of 3D-printed footwear."
Project Nectar, developed in-house by Nike, is a TPU-based technology that enables additive manufacturing during production. Printing a full pair of Air Max 95000 takes 48 hours, but the Project Nectar portion is completed in under a minute. This efficiency showcases the potential for rapid customization and production.
Nike and Zellerfeld are aiming even higher, envisioning 3D-printed shoes tailored to each customer's feet. The brand also previewed additional colorways for the Air Max 95000, offering a range of style options. The shoe will be available in a 'black/Volt' colorway at ComplexCon this weekend, followed by a wider release on November 27th through the Snkrs app and Zellerfeld's website. With a price tag of $250, the Air Max 95000 is set to be a highly sought-after release.
This groundbreaking collaboration between Nike and Zellerfeld is not just about creating a new shoe; it's about pushing the boundaries of what's possible in footwear design. The Air Max 95000 and Project Nectar are a testament to the power of innovation, offering a glimpse into the future of personalized, high-performance shoes.
