How many times have you looked at various astrology columns in the newspaper or on the internet to check out whats in store for you in your workplace, in relationships, or your social life? But health? Unlikely. And yet, wouldnt prior knowledge of illnesses be just the thing to take precautions, and thereby reduce the intensity of the illness.
In astrology, all living things are supposed to be under the influence of planets. Human bodies meanwhile, are made up of five elements: fire, earth, air, water, and ether. Diseases happen when there is an imbalance of these elements. If for instance, air is imbalanced, one is prone to gastric problems, asthma or pain in the joints. A water imbalance causes dysentery, vomiting and ulcers. Fire causes fever, shivering and thirst. Earth can trigger off flesh and hair ailments, and ether causes loss of consciousness, lunacy, etc.
Each element is represented by different zodiac signs - Aries, Leo and Sagittarius by fire; Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn by earth; Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces by watery; Gemini, Libra and Aquarius by air, Sagittarius and Pisces also represent ether. Planets represent these elements too. Sun and Mars - fire, Mercury - earth, Jupiter - ether, Moon and Venus - water, Saturn and Rahu - air. Since each rashi and planet represents an element any affliction to them will cause ailments too.
According to our ancient sages, the horoscope represents the body of the Kaal Purush. Each of the 12 bhavas signifies various parts of the body. The first house is our head, hair, forehead, and brain; the second house the face, right eye, nose, cheeks, teeth, and tongue; the third house the throat, shoulders, windpipe, right arm and ears; the fourth house the chest, lungs, heart, breasts and ribs; the fifth house the stomach, navel, small intestine; the sixth house the lower abdomen, large intestine, hips, and back; the seventh house the upper part of the generative organs, kidneys and uterus; the eighth house the reproductive and excretory organs and prostrate glands; the ninth house the thighs and the nervous system; the tenth house the knees, joints and flesh; the eleventh house the calves and left ear; the twelth house the feet, heels and left eye.
The ascendants, Sun and Moon, tell us about the structure of the body, its strength and weeknesses. Different rashis in the ascendant form different types of people. Their temperament, likes and dislikes vary accordingly. The Sun rules our soul and the Moon is the lord of our mind. For a person to be healthy it is very important that the body, mind and soul should be in a good condition, and so the ascendant should be unafflicted.
The twelve rashis and nine planets are strong indicators of diseases. The sixth house in a horoscope is the house of diseases, so the lord of this house and any planets placed there are indicative of the illness. Each planet is responsible for certain diseases, while the Sun causes headaches, fevers and pain in the bones and heart-related problems. The Moon causes mental illnesses, blood pressure problems, coughs, tuberculosis and chest diseases. Mars causes boils, blood cancer, bone marrow problems and menstrual disorders. Mercury signifies skin problems, nerve ailments, epilepsy and leucoderma.
Jupiter causes diabetes, jaundice and flatulence. Venus is responsible for impotence, problems in the ovaries, barrenness and drug addiction. Saturn causes arthritis, pain in the knees and legs, and any diseases which slowly become serious problems such as tumors, paralysis and bone fractures.
Rahu is responsible for small pox, sleeplessness and delusions, varicose veins and leprosy, besides diseases which doctors are unable to diagnose. Ketu leads to situations where operation becomes necessary, injuries from accidents, and skin eruptions. It also causes speech defects and phobias.
