In the state of California any key that is marked "DUPLICATION PROHIBITED", "DO NOT DUPLICATE", or any variation; is ILLEGAL for anyone to copy without a "LETTER OF AUTHORIZATION". A copy of this letter must be presented to the person who is copying the key. That letter is kept on file in accordance with the law unless it is marked as a "one-time authorization".
WHAT IS A LETTER OF AUTHORIZATION?
A letter of authorization is simply a letter on company letterhead stating that you or an employee or tenant are authorized to make your do not duplicate keys. Then you must have that letter signed off on by the owner or manager of your property.
We've worked hard to make this process easier for you with this simple form!
Please fill out the information below. If you would like to limit the number of keys for each person on the list please add that number next to the persons name in the "The following people are authorized to make our DO NOT DUPLICATE keys" section of the below form. Once you submit it you will receive an e-mail with all of it properly formatted. When you receive that e-mail we receive it as well. Attached to each e-mail is the official signed "dnd-auth" aka DND LETTER OF AUTHORIZATION. Once you see that e-mail you are all set to send in the individuals you have listed on it!

The law is the law. This policy is the policy of the State of California and anyone who cuts a "DND" key without a letter is subject to afine. Our goal as locksmiths is to provide security and peace of mind for our customers. We cut DND keys for many of our big accounts and we do this so that they can feel safe in knowing that their employees or tenants can not get copies made without their permission. It is both illegal andunethical foranyone duplicating keysto not follow this simple guideline.
Restricted Keys
Some keys have a higher level of restriction than a DND stamp. The keyblanks themselves may be restricted or may feature unique cuts. These are typically referred to as "Restricted Keys". We can cut many of these keys, but if you come in with a key we can't copy we'll point you in the direction of someone who can.
