The Future of MotoGP: A Dominant Ducati?
Pedro Acosta, KTM's rising star, has cast a shadow over his team's prospects for the upcoming 2026 MotoGP season. In a recent interview, he expressed concerns about KTM's ability to challenge for race wins, citing the dominance of two other manufacturers.
With KTM entering the 2026 season still seeking its first victory since 2022, Acosta's words carry weight. Despite his enthusiasm for the improvements made to the RC16 over the winter, pre-season testing has left KTM firmly in third place on the grid.
But here's where it gets controversial... Acosta believes the KTM has improved, but he's not convinced it's enough to challenge the likes of Aprilia and Ducati. He acknowledges that these two brands are currently setting the pace, with Ducati's dominance seemingly even more pronounced than last year.
During the first day of testing at Buriram, Acosta ran a sprint simulation and was encouraged by the results. He noted, "It looks quite ok, much better than last year's bike. Comparing with other riders, it doesn't seem dramatic. We still struggle a bit over short distances, but it's not crazy. I'm quite happy with that."
However, he's saving judgment until the full race simulation on the second day of testing. "That will tell the truth," he said. "If the bike performs much better, we should be able to fight for the win. But it's clear that Ducati and Aprilia are the ones to beat."
And this is the part most people miss... Acosta's comments highlight the intense competition within MotoGP. With Ducati's dominance seemingly growing, and Aprilia picking up where they left off last season, KTM faces an uphill battle. But will they be able to close the gap and challenge for victories? Only time will tell.
What do you think? Is KTM's victory drought about to end, or will Ducati and Aprilia continue to dominate? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
