- Understand the concept of a behavioral-based interview. Behavioral-based interviews focuson past behaviors to predict future performance. We ask questions about specific situations,actions, and outcomes to gain a better understanding of how you manage various scenarios.Familiarize yourself with this concept to better anticipate and respond to interview questions.
- Research the company and job role. Thoroughly research Wells Fargo and the job role forwhich you are interviewing. Understand the company culture, values, and mission, as well as thespecific skills and qualifications required for the position. By doing so, you can tailor your answersto align with the company's needs and demonstrate your genuine interest and knowledge duringthe interview.
- Review the job description. Carefully review the job description to identify the keycompetencies and skills required. Reflect on your own experiences and identify instances whereyou have successfully demonstrated these skills.
- Compile a list of common behavioral questions. Compile a list of common behavioralquestions and practice answering them. - Answer questions using the situation, behavior, and outcome (SBO) method, formerly known as the STAR method (situation, task, action, result). Explain a specific event orsituation (not a generalized description) of what you have faced in the past that relates to thequestion. Describe the action you took to address the situation. Describe the outcome of youractions. What happened? What was the result of your actions? What did you accomplish? Did youlearn from the experience? Include positive results.
- Prepare your elevator speech. Focus on your skills that are applicable to the job for which youare interviewing. Concentrate on your key qualifications. Highlight key accomplishments and bragabout yourself!
- Come prepared for the interview. Be familiar with the job posting and gather as muchinformation as possible about the role, responsibilities, and other details relevant to the position.Recall any information that has shared about the role and how your experience aligns. Use clearand concise communication and listen carefully to each question.
- Practice, practice, practice. Practice your interview responses with friends or family members.The more you practice, the more comfortable and confident you will become in delivering youranswers. Seek feedback on your communication style, body language, and overall presentation.
- Prepare your own questions. Remember to prepare thoughtful questions to ask at the end ofthe interview. This demonstrates your interest, initiative, and enthusiasm to learn more about thecompany and the role.
- Follow up. Be sure to follow-up with a note thanking the hiring manager and panelists for theirtime and interest. It demonstrates your professionalism and genuine appreciation for theopportunity.
