UNest makes it easy for parents to set up a saving and investment plan for their children. The money saved and invested in a UNest account can be used for education and other important life stages. UNest also includes a simple gifting feature that makes it easy for family and friends to contribute to a child’s UNest account. Parents can also add valuable rewards to their child’s account when they shop with over 150 UNest brand partners.

UNest saving and investment accounts are UTMA/UGMA (The Uniform Transfers to Minors Act) custodial accounts. These offer parents the flexibility to use the money they save and invest for all the life stages their child goes through including college savings.

Opening a UNest account is simple, secure, and takes less than five minutes. After installing the app (available on both Apple and Android) you will be prompted to answer a series of questions to help us best manage your account and stay compliant with federal regulations.

You can close your UNest account at any time by using the cancellation button in the app. There may be a short hold if you’ve just invested money in the account, but there are no penalties. One important thing to consider – if you choose to withdraw your funds you may be subject to taxes on any short term investment gains. You may lose the tax advantages if you don’t use the proceeds for the benefit of the child that you set up the account for. Once requested, the return process typically takes between 10-14 business days and the account balance will be returned to you via ACH or check.
