What is a private page? ›

When you make a post or page private, only Administrators and Editors are able to see that content. Everyone else receives an error. The Administrator user types are the only ones who can activate private pages. Editors don't have this control.

A private website is a web page that requires authentication before granting access to its content, making it an excellent way to protect your business information and customers' data from unauthorized access.

As the name implies, a private WordPress page or post is not visible to the public. Depending on the settings, it may only be visible to one or a couple of users, and that's it. Even if a visitor has the URL for a certain page, he or she won't be able to see it if it is set to “private.”

You can search while signed out of your Google account, but they can still save your history by using browser cookies. For a more private search, use "private browsing" or "incognito mode" (Chrome's term for it). Most browsers have this choice in the "File" menu: New Incognito Window or New Private Window.

You can make your site private to hide it from all visitors and search engines, add a password to make it accessible to some visitors, or make it public when the site is ready for everyone. This guide reviews the different site availability options and how they appear to your visitors.

Private browsing works by deleting your browser history and any form data when you close the private window or tab. It also deletes cookies and removes any other temporary data from your browsing session. Most private browsing modes work the same way.

Private browsing is intended to erase local traces of websites you have visited, what you have searched for, what online forms you have submitted, and so on. It is meant to hide your activity from others with access to the personal computer. That is all it does.

Incognito or private mode will keep your local browsing private, but it won't stop your ISP, school, or employer from seeing where you've been online. In fact, your ISP has access to all your browsing activity pretty much no matter what you do. You can, however, use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service.

Search the Page Source for “WordPress” or “wp-“

If you're comfortable exploring a website's code, you can check the page source for references to “WordPress” or “wp-“. To do this, right-click on the webpage, select “View Page Source” (or similar, depending on your browser), and search for these keywords.

View a Private Site

Logging into a WordPress.com account ensures that only those people you've authorized can view your site. A visitor can request access to a private site by clicking on the “request access” link when attempting to visit a private site while logged into their WordPress.com account.

Searching information isn't a crime itself. However, searches can raise red flags and certain sites and internet activity are criminal (e.g., possession of child p*rnography).

But deleting digital data—including clearing browser history—can result in federal felony obstruction of justice charges under 18 U.S.C. § 1519, the federal anti-shredding statute, which carries a 20-year maximum penalty. It is thus vital that citizens understand what is and is not illegal under § 1519.

Incognito mode, also known as private browsing or in-private mode, prevents your device from saving your browsing history. Incognito mode also doesn't save temporary data — such as cookies or website login info — which helps keep your activity hidden from anyone who uses your device later.

You can use Facebook's Privacy menu to limit who can see your posts, profile, and more. Setting every option to "Only Me" will make your Facebook profile completely private. You can also set up reminders to update your privacy settings using the Privacy Checkup tool.

Public profiles also allow people to search for you, send you a friend request, or follow you from the search results. A private Facebook profile, however, is not visible to anyone other than the user's confirmed friends.

Increased Privacy: By setting your profile to private, you have greater control over who can see your posts, pictures, and personal information.

The simplest way to view a private Instagram account is to send a follow request. If the user has their profile set to private, they will have to approve your request before you can see any of their content. This option is best if you know the person and can directly send them a request.
