Ranking: Universities Most Likely To Land You A Job In Tech (1)

Which university will most likely land you your dream job in tech?

In Universum’s most recent ranking of the most sought-after employers for business school graduates, tech companies dominated the very top of the list. FAANG companies — Meta (formerly Facebook), Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and Alphabet (Google) – made up three of the top five spots, according to a survey of more than 185,000 business, engineering, and IT students.

Apple was the most attractive company to business students in 2022, up from No. 3 a year ago. Google dropped to No. 2 while Amazon ranked No. 4.

If one of these top tech firms are in your employment dreams, what’s the best path forward?

A new study by Hubs.com analyzed more than 700,000 Linkedin profiles to determine the colleges and universities most likely to land a job at one of the world’s top 50 tech firms.

BAY AREA SCHOOLS DOMINATE

Data analysts at Hub.com, an online platform for custom part manufacturing, ranked the schools by a single metric: The number of alumni a school had working at one of the top 50 tech firms from Companies Market Cap.

In perhaps the least surprising news from the study, Stanford University has the highest number of alumni (16,326) who have been employed at top tech destinations such as Google, Amazon, and Apple. University of California Berkeley, just across the Bay, is a close second with 16,124.

The top five schools are listed below.

Stanford University is the birthplace of Silicon Valley, helping create the world’s premier tech hub starting with the Stanford Industrial Park after World War II. Early tech pioneers like Lockheed, Fairchild, Xerox and General Electric all got their start there.

Now, the university is almost synonymous with tech, entrepreneurship, and among the top business schools in the world. Stanford perpetually has the highest earning MBA startup companies on our annual list, and it has produced more unicorn startups per capita than any other school.

San Francisco, a short commute for both Stanford and UC Berkeley, remains one of the top cities for tech job postings, both in volume and in year-over-year growth.

UC Berkeley, meanwhile, is the top feeder school to Google with 4,342 alumni having worked at the tech giant.

“There’s no doubt that the demand for careers in the technology sector is rapidly increasing, with companies like Apple, Google, and Meta leading the way with ground-breaking innovations, “ says Alex Cappy, CEO of Hubs.com. “With these firms striving to find the world’s next tech superstars, it’s no surprise to see some of the world’s most prestigious universities make the list.”

20 BEST SCHOOLS FOR TECH CAREERS

The US dominates the top 20 universities at 13. The University of Washington in Seattle, home to Amazon, came in third with 15,738 alumni having worked in tech.

“The University of Southern California also makes the list, along with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), making students in the sunshine state likely to succeed in Silicon Valley,” the study finds. California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo has 6,389 alumni in tech.

India, meanwhile, has four schools in the top 10: Delhi University, University of Mumbai, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, and Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). The University of Oxford produces the highest number of tech wizards in the United Kingdom with 4,465 students studying at a leading firm.
