Can I rent a car in Jeju without an international license? ›

In order to rent a car in Korea, you must have a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) or a valid driver's license issued in Korea.

Renting a car in Jeju is one of the best ways to explore the island. You'll have complete freedom to go wherever you want, at a time that suits you. The great news is that renting a car is straightforward. You just need to make sure you have everything prepared before your trip.

Travelers staying short-term for tourism purposes may rent a car with an international driver's license (B grade: 9-seater or less, D grade: 11- to 12-seater or less) but must be over 21 years of age and have been in Korea for less than one year. Travelers must also present a passport or alien registration card.

Parking is easily available and generally free around Jeju. However, there may be a small fee at certain attractions and popular destinations. So do have some small change available.

So just be careful with them! Tldr; I honestly had a lot of fun driving around Jeju, and at no point did I feel unsafe or that the roads were dangerous. Most of Jeju's most popular attractions can usually be covered in 4 to 5 day itineraries. So if you're going to be there for longer than that, your remaining days can be best spent revisiting your favourite spots or embarking on themed journeys around the island.
