Get ready, boxing fans, because IBF super-lightweight world champion Richardson Hitchins has dropped a bombshell prediction for the upcoming clash between Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson: he's betting on a dominant victory for Stevenson! Hitchins, who secured his IBF strap after a win against Liam Paro in late 2024, made his prediction known ahead of the highly anticipated 140lb title fight.
Hitchins, after defending his belt in 2025 by knocking out George Kambosos Jr., was aiming for a unification bout with other super-lightweight champions. However, WBO titleholder Lopez chose to face three-division champion Shakur Stevenson instead.
Hitchins, speaking to FightHype, believes Stevenson is on a completely different level than Lopez. He predicts a one-sided fight, stating that Stevenson will 'mess' Lopez up. He added that while Lopez is gifted, Stevenson's defensive style could be a challenge.
But here's where it gets controversial... Hitchins has also expressed interest in fighting Lopez if he somehow manages to win against Stevenson. He has stated that he has unfinished business with Lopez, and the fight is what he wants.
Hitchins recalls that after his fight with George Kambosos, Lopez was in the crowd, and that fight was supposed to happen next. However, Stevenson stepped in and 'intercepted' that plan.
The Lopez-Stevenson fight is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, at Madison Square Garden. The main event will be supported by two additional world title fights on the undercard.
