In a heartwarming celebration of Rutgers University's rich basketball history, the annual "Meet The Team Knight" event took place on a memorable Thursday evening. With over 250 guests in attendance, the night was a testament to the enduring spirit of Rutgers athletics.
Head coach Steve Pikiell, in his tenth year at the helm, served as the perfect emcee for the evening, sharing his blessings and insights about the players he's come to know so well. He praised the 1976 Final Four team, who were the stars of the night, for their loyalty, resilience, and the unbreakable bond they shared.
"The key to their success? Chemistry and a shared focus on winning," said Mike Dabney, an All-American member of the 1976 squad. "We'd gladly trade our undefeated season for the current team's success."
The evening began with an open practice and scrimmage at Jersey Mike's Arena, where attendees got a glimpse of the 2025-26 Scarlet Knights in action. Among the guests was 10-year-old Trent Powers, a Team IMPACT signee, who joined his new teammates for the day.
The celebration then moved to the RWJBarnabas Health Athletic Performance Center for a cocktail reception, featuring a string quartet and signature drinks. Sir Henry, a beloved figure, greeted fans and added to the festive atmosphere. Dinner and the main program took place on the Brown Family Practice Court, where the entertainment continued with fan-favorite games hosted by Assistant Athletic Director for Communications, Chris Corso.
Coach Pikiell introduced his 2025-26 roster with his signature humor, highlighting players like Max Fradkin, Dylan Grant, and Bryce Dortch, as well as newcomers Lino Mark, Darren Buchanan Jr., and Baye Fall. The games, including "Name Your Baby Knight" and "Know Your Roommate," brought laughter and insight into the team's dynamics.
The night concluded with inspiring remarks from Director of Athletics Keli Zinn, who emphasized the department's commitment to sustained success and the growth of the R NIL initiative. Coach Pikiell's closing remarks, filled with his trademark one-liners, left attendees with a lasting impression and a sense of pride in Rutgers basketball.
