Sakura Kiryu Joins Live-Action Strobe Edge Series: A New Chapter Unveiled (2025)

Get ready for some exciting news in the world of live-action adaptations! The highly anticipated live-action series based on Io Sakisaka's manga, Strobe Edge, has just announced its cast, and it's a treat for fans!

The official X account for the series revealed that the talented Sakura Kiryū, known for her roles in Weathering With You and Lonely Castle in the Mirror, will be joining the cast as Mao Sugimoto. Mao, a pivotal character in the upcoming second season, will bring her own unique charm to the story.

Strobe Edge is set to be adapted into two seasons, ensuring that the entire manga is faithfully brought to life. The first season will premiere on October 31 at 11:00 p.m. on WOWOW, and fans can expect a thrilling six-episode journey.

The series boasts an impressive cast, led by Riko Fukumoto as Ninako Kinoshita and Kyohei Takahashi as Ren Ichinose. Joining them are a talented bunch, including Kōki Yamashita as Takumi Andō, Nao Kosaka as Sayuri Uehara, and Motoki Nakazawa as Daiki Korenaga. Other notable cast members include Tsubasa Nakagawa, Sora Inoue, Neo Inoue, Yui Oguri, and Ririka Tanabe, each bringing their own skills to the table.

What's even more exciting is that the series has reunited the staff from WOWOW's previous live-action adaptation of Sakisaka's Blue Spring Ride manga. Masato Kimura and Yūsuke Matsuda are back at the helm, directing the series, with Sayaka Kuwamura penning the script once again.

Strobe Edge has a rich history, having inspired a live-action film in 2015, starring Sōta Fukushi and Kasumi Arimura. The manga also spawned a 32-page spinoff story in the November issue of Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine, focusing on the beloved character Takumi Andō.

For those who haven't delved into the world of Strobe Edge, the story revolves around Ninako Kinoshita, a young woman trying to understand the enigmatic feeling called love. When she crosses paths with Ren Ichinose, a charming and mysterious guy, her world is turned upside down. With just a smile and a few words, Ren ignites a spark in Ninako's life.

Io Sakisaka launched the manga in 2007, and it concluded in 2010. Sakisaka's other works, including Blue Spring Ride, Sakura, Saku!, and Love Me, Love Me Not, have also been adapted into English by Viz Media, ensuring that fans worldwide can enjoy her captivating stories.
