A new study has revealed the most walkable cities in the UK, and one of them is located in Scotland.
With summer just around the corner and people across the country enjoying warmer and sunnier weather in recent weeks, now is the perfect time to plan a city break. While every city in the UK has its own charms, there is something to be said about the ones where you can practically walk everywhere without the need for public transport.
For those looking for inspiration on where to head for a sunny city break this season, online language learning marketplace Preply has compiled a list of the 10 "best UK cities to explore on foot". Coming in at number seven on the list is Edinburgh.
According to the experts, the minimum time needed to walk to the top five tourist attractions in the Scottish capital is 125 minutes. Meanwhile, they also found that it takes around 11,760 steps to travel between them for a total distance of 5.6 miles.
Famous for its cobbled streets and Georgian architecture, Edinburgh features a wealth of things to see and do. Much of these attractions are indeed very centrally located, with Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, the Real Mary King's Close, and the Palace of Holyroodhouse all situated within a close proximity.
Elsewhere, for those willing to travel a little bit further out of the centre of the city, Arthur's Seat offers spectacular sweeping views over the capital's skyline. If we are blessed with more sunny weather in the coming weeks, it is definitely worth the hike up.
Meanwhile, topping Preply's list of the UK's most walkable cities is Oxford. According to the experts, it takes just 22 minutes to travel between its top attractions on foot.
Most famous for its renowned university, the city also includes many other things to see and do around its centre that can be easily traversed. These include the Bodleian Library and the Pitt Rivers Museum.
