The Homestead Exemption saves property owners thousands of dollars each year. Do not jeopardize your Homestead by renting your property.
Before buying real estate property, be aware that non-ad valorem assessments may have a significant impact on your property tax bill.

- Qualifying, Renewing or Canceling the Senior Exemption
The Senior Exemption is an additional property tax benefit available to home owners who meet the following criteria:
- The property must qualify for a homestead exemption
- At least one homeowner must be 65 years old as of January 1
- Total ‘Household Adjusted Gross Income’ for everyone who lives on the property cannot exceed statutory limits.
This exemption benefit is a “Local Option” which means county and city governments (excluding school board) can decide whether or not to implement. See whichlocal governments have adopted the exemption.

The Long-Term Resident Senior Exemption is an additional homestead exemption that provides a local option for county and city governments (excluding school board) to eliminate their ad valorem portion of the tax bill to qualifying low-income seniors.
