A Hardware Identifier is a unique reference that identifies the hardware where the software is installed. For the MiVoice Business system, the Hardware Identifier is the SYS ID. For the Mitel Your Assistant, the Hardware Identifier is provided by the system software. When set at product activation, this value locks the options for a given Application Record onto that specific system.
When a system failure occurs, the Hardware Identifier can be reset, allowing you to use your existing Application Record with a different piece of hardware:
You can only reset the Hardware Identifier three times every 180 days. More frequent resets require Mitel AMC or Product Support.
When upgrading or redeploying on the same hardware, a hardware ID reset is NOT required. The hardware ID cannot be reset for Enterprise Manager. Contact amc_accounts@mitel.com for assistance.
Products whose operating system is based on Mitel Standard Linux (MSL), MiCollab, MiCollab Unified Messaging, MiVoice Business and so on will retain the hardware ID within the MSL backup.
Beginning with release 6.0 for Virtual MiVoice Business the MSL backup contains an OVA, and will restore the hardware ID, a reset of the hardware ID at the AMC is NOT required.
General Steps
Virtual MiVoice Business, the general steps are as follows:
- Perform an MSL backup.
Deploy the OVA.
On first start-up, restore from the MSL backup.
The Hardware Identifier can be reset by the Customer Record owner having an AMC user role of Technician/ Support/ Purchasing/Administrator, consult with the AMC Administrator for your company to provide the appropriate role.
Users with shared access do not have the ability to set/clear Hardware ID's. The Hardware ID may be reset 3 times within a 180 day period, if additional resets are needed a Mitel support ticket needs to be opened.
