Sign Up for an App Through Apple? How to Unsubscribe on iPhone, iPad, or PC (2024)

Have you ever subscribed to an app directly through your iPhone or iPad? Maybe it was a free trial subscription that requires a monthly fee to continue. Or perhaps it was one of Apple’s own services, such as Apple Music or Apple Arcade. It could even be a third-party app, such as a password manager or music-streaming service.

However you kicked off the subscription, you can stop it right from your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or PC (if you still use iTunes). The process is fairly quick, but you need to know where to go tap before you can pull the plug. Here's how to cancel a subscription from your iPhone, iPad, or computer.

Unsubscribe From an App on an iPhone or iPad

To view and cancel subscriptions via iOS or iPadOS, navigate to Settings, tap your username, and select Subscriptions. Here, you can view your active and expired subscriptions. Tap the service you want to cancel, then tap Cancel Subscription (or Cancel Free Trial). Tap Confirm and you're done.

A service for which you already have a paid subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing cycle. If you're still on a free trial, the account will close right away. If you're on a free or discounted trial, make sure to cancel it at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Otherwise, it may renew automatically before the cancellation is processed.

You can also cancel a subscription by going through the App Store on your iPhone or iPad. Open the App Store and tap your profile icon in the upper right, then tap Subscriptions and select the service you want to cancel. Tap the Cancel Subscription link and confirm. The subscription will then be cancelled, and your access will be revoked at the end of that billing cycle. If you wish to re-subscribe, the service will remain listed with different payment options visible.

If you change your mind about a subscription before or after the expiration date, tap the service you want to bring back and select a payment option, then confirm your changes to re-subscribe. When you subscribe to an app, Apple generates a random Subscriber ID unique to you and the developer. If you cancel your subscription for an app and don't re-subscribe within 180 days, the Subscriber ID is reset

If you're cancelling Apple Music, you can do so via the Apple Music app. To do this, open Apple Music on your iPhone or iPad. Tap the Listen Now icon at the bottom and then tap the profile icon in the upper right. Tap the Manage Subscription link, then choose Cancel Subscription or Cancel Free Trial.

Apple Music is also supported on Android. You can cancel it from any Android device, regardless of where you started the subscription. To do so, open the app and tap the Listen Now icon at the bottom. Then tap the three-dot settings icon in the upper-right corner and select Account > Manage Subscription > Cancel Subscription and confirm the cancellation.

Unsubscribe From an App on a Mac

You can unsubscribe from an app on a Mac from the System Settings (macOS Ventura and higher) or System Preferences (macOS Monterey and earlier) menu. Click Apple Account, then select Media & Purchases and choose Manage next to Subscriptions to open your settings in the App Store.

You can also open the App Store and click your account name in the lower-left corner of the window. At your Account window, click Account Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the Manage link next to Subscriptions.

Click the Edit link next to the app subscription you want to cancel. At the next screen, click the Cancel Subscription button and then confirm the cancellation.

Unsubscribe From an App Through Through iTunes

If you're on a Windows computer or still run macOS Catalina on your Mac, you can also cancel subscriptions in iTunes. Open iTunes, click the Account menu and select View My Account. Enter your Apple account password to view your account information.Scroll down to the Settings section and click the Manage link next to Subscriptions.

Click the Edit link next to the subscription you want to cancel, then select Cancel Subscription. A message pops up asking you to confirm that you want to cancel your subscription. Click the Confirm button.

Unsubscribe Through Email

If you saved the confirmation email from when you first subscribed to an app, you can reach the necessary subscription window from there. In the email, click the review your subscription link. The Edit Subscription window pops up where you can now review and cancel the subscription.
