Slash on Vegas Sphere: Why It’s Not Rock 'n' Roll Friendly | Guns N' Roses Interview (2025)

Slash on the Las Vegas Sphere: 'It's Not Really... Rock 'n' Roll'

While Guns N' Roses could easily sell out a residency at Las Vegas' futuristic Sphere venue, guitarist Slash admits he's hesitant about the band playing there. He believes it's not the ideal setting for a traditional rock 'n' roll show.

In an interview on SiriusXM's Trunk Nation, Slash expressed his concerns, saying, 'I haven't been to the Sphere yet, but everything I've seen looks amazing. However, I'm really trepidatious about playing there because it's primarily a visual spectacle. Most bands end up focusing more on the visuals rather than delivering a genuine rock 'n' roll experience.'

He further elaborated, 'I've talked to Joe Walsh about it, and he mentioned that The Eagles' residency there hasn't been rock 'n' roll-friendly. It's a fascinating concept with endless possibilities, but I don't think it suits a proper rock 'n' roll show.'

When asked about Metallica's potential residency, Slash showed interest, saying, 'I'd love to see that too. I heard about Metallica doing it. I can see them doing it because it requires a unique mindset. You have to prepare for more than just a band performance; 50% of the show will be projections and visual content.'

Despite his reservations, Slash didn't rule out a future GN'R performance at the Sphere, stating, 'The projected visuals will dominate the show and everyone's attention. It's a significant shift in mindset, and it's challenging for us to embrace that fully. However, we'll see. Maybe in the future.'

The Sphere has already hosted residencies by No Doubt and The Eagles, with the latter's dates extending until late February 2026. Slash's comments highlight the ongoing debate about the Sphere's suitability for traditional rock performances.
