Below is everything you need to know about mining and above is everything you want from it. So let's give you the details:
Where do I mine?► Any of the planetoids or asteroid fields are mineable.► It is advisable that you find a mineral rich site close to a station.► Tip: Ask around for lucrative mining spots, secrets.► I have had relative luck in most areas.
How do I mine?► Currently in 3.3.6 you will need a Misc. Prospector mining ship.► After acquiring find a planetoid or asteroid field.► Press [TAB] to enable scanner and hold down [LEFT MOUSE BUTTON] or assigned FIRE1 until the scanner reads 100% then let go of the button. After doing so, blue boxes will appear on mineable ore. If none appear than there is nothing near you that is of value. I have personally noticed that the scanner picks up everything within 5000 meters of your position at 100% scan.► Be picky on what you mine. Your cargo hold is limited and you can't jettison what you've collected for something better just yet. What you are looking for is high percentages of the elements that are shown below in the spreadsheet titled "Miners Spreadsheet".► Once you have found something to your liking, you will need to fracture the rock using your mining laser. Press [M] to enter mining mode. Depending on the rock's size you will need to use one of two modes. Either the "fracture mode" which I have found is for larger ore, usually above 300 kilos and is the default mining mode or "extraction mode" for smaller fragments, usually below 300 kilos.► You can normally tell by the outline what laser mode is needed. If there is an orange outline you will need to use the fracture mode and if there is a blue line you will need to use extraction mode.► When in "fracture mode" point at the ore you want and click the [LEFT MOUSE BUTTON] or assigned FIRE1 to engage the laser. Adjust the Laser throttle with [MOUSE WHEEL]. Your throttle power will vary depending on the type of ore/deposit and the weight. Start low and adjust up to be safe.► When the Rock energy level is in the green, your fracture sensor will increase. If the Rock energy level is above the green, the overcharge sensor will increase. You DO NOT want the Overcharge sensor to hit 100% or you will have a nasty explosion that could kill you! If the levels get to hot just turn everything off to be safe. For more details refer to the video contents.► Your goal is to increase your Fracturing sensor to 100% without the overcharge sensor getting to 100%► Now it is time to suck up the smaller fragments you find valuable. Switch the mining laser mode to "extraction mode" by clicking the [RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON] or assigned FIRE2 button.► For more details watch the examples in the video.
