Headstart
Headstart
In Speedstorm it is extremely important to learn the basic tricks that give players a good head start. During the countdown the Racers will see a speed dominator that will appear when the race is about to begin. This speed dominator has 3 areas: the dark, light green, and lime green. The yellow indicator will start moving if the player holds acceleration button. It is recommended for Racers to try and avoid the dark area as that will not give a Speed Boost. The light green area gives a small boost while the lime area pushes the player ahead with maximum strength allowing the racer to get a head start.
Players who successfully complete the speedometer mini-game also receive a brief period of invulnerability to help them separate themselves from the pack.
Drifting
Now that you have the perfect Speed Boost, you will want to continue having it for as long as possible and that's where Drifting comes in. Drifting is extremely important as it will help the Racer to constantly have a Speed Boost or gain boost for the boost bar. To drift in Speedstorm you will need to press your Drifting button. Players might be asking, "Where should I drift?' and 'When should I drift?". Even though you can drift practically anytime and anywhere in the map, it is recommended to always try to drift at curves as that's the easiest place to gain boost. Since Speedstorm allows players to drift anywhere, it is also important not to overdo the Drifting part as it decreases your current speed in process. However, it fills in your boost bar which gives you a Speed Boost later on.
Speed Boost Bar
Speed Boost Bar
Players may notice a bar on the top of their screens, that is the Speed Boost Bar. The Speed Boost Bar is probably players' biggest ally as it helps them increase their speed massively during the race. There are a total of 5 different ways to fill in the bar:
- Drifting
- Skills
- Mid-Air tricks
- Speed Pads
- Grind Pipes
While Drifting might be the main way to fill in the bar and fly forward, other small things can also be of huge help. Racers like Baloo can use their Unique Skill and leave fruits on the ground which fill in the Speed Boost Bar on pick-up.
Mid-Air tricks can also assist as you will get a tiny bonus upon landing. To do a trick you simply need to press your Drifting key while being in the air.
Speed Pads are probably the most noticeable part of a racing track as players meet them everywhere along the way. Those blue circles on the ground with arrows on them are extremely powerful in terms of speeding players up. Driving onto them both pushes you forward right away and fills in your Speed Boost Bar.
Grind Pipes are great Speed Boost helpers. These narrow dark-blue side rails can be found on any map, and you will quite often see people clash on them in attempts to get the desirable speed push. To get onto a slip stream the player simply needs to press their jump button to hop onto the rail, and the Speed Boost Bar will slowly start filling in. However, be careful, railing makes you vulnerable towards any sneak attacks of your opponents! If any of them uses a skill, you might get stunned and kicked off the rail!
