Have you heard of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch? Because it is a real place. Make these little towns British Famous.

by VisitBritainPromoted Content

Great Britain is home to a number of towns with very odd names. That got us thinking: What if you planned a trip across Britain to visit only towns with silly names? And what if you did activities that matched the names of the silly towns? This would mean you visited the towns literally.

What follows is a prospective literal road trip across Britain through towns with odd names. Undertake this journey if yeh dare. (And if yeh dare, tell us how it goes.)

Day 1

1. Your journey begins in the seaside village of Beer where you will drink a beer.

Beer (the drink) is a great way to start the day in this coastal village on the Jurassic Coast. Beer (the village) is known for its shingle beach, fresh seafood, white chalk cliffs, and historic caves. They have pubs, so finding a beer should not be an issue.

2. Next, travel to Bath to take a bath at the roman baths.

Bath has quite a few attractions, but the most famous are the ancient Roman baths. While you can't bathe in the originals, you can enjoy the modern spa (with its rooftop heated bathing pool) supplied by the very same bath waters only a block away.

3. Afterward, head west and ride a donkey in Donkey Town.

We're not sure where you can find donkeys in Donkey Town, but I think we can all agree that your Instagram place tag needs this.

Please note: The above photo was not taken in Donkey Town, but there is nothing stopping you from recreating it.

Can't decide what to say? Here are a few Shakespearean classics.

5. And spend the night in Great Snoring, Norfolk.

What better place to get a night's sleep? If you aren't a big snorer, you might stop off in Little Snoring, a neighboring village.

Day 2

6. At daybreak, head off to find a rabbit in Bunny, Nottinghamshire.

Or eat a rabbit, if you prefer. No judgement. The village of Bunny has a charming little website that outlines the perfect stroll around town if you'd like to explore the area while searching for your rabbit. Hare-raising adventures await!

7. Butt text someone in (are you ready for it?) Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, Wales.

Yes, this is a real place. The name is Welsh for "Saint Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio of the red cave," which sounds like a spell on World of Warcraft. This small coastal village also has a website. The web address? So glad you asked! It's: www.llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.co.uk of course.

8. Go puddle-jumping in Jump, South Yorkshire.

This area south of Barnsley is the perfect place to hop out of the car and poke around. And guess what? There's a trampoline park nearby.

9. Head north and feel sorry for yourself after a long day on the road in Pity Me, Durham.

The area boasts a few historic inns. Head off to a local pub where you can drown your sorrows.

Day 3

10. Get a slow start in the morning at the Rest And Be Thankful Viewpoint, Cairndow, Scotland.

This famous viewpoint is the highest point on the A83 highway. You're rewarded for the journey with beautiful views of the valley and the old military road that divides it.

11. Then find yourself in Lost, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

instagram.com

What a street sign! It's so popular that it's been stolen numerous times. The city council decided to weld the sign to the post and secure the post in concrete. Don't get any bright ideas.

12. And, finally, look for a fight* in Brawl, the northern most community on the island of Great Britain.

*Guys! Kidding!

You won't find a pub in Brawl, as it's just the name for a very, very small crofting community along the coast. However, you will be treated to spectacular views of the Scottish coastline. After a few days crisscrossing Great Britain, you'll likely find something to argue about with your travel companions. Perhaps things will come to blows. But never fear, it’s nothing a long talk at a pub (in a different town) won’t iron out

The complete journey:

Britain is home to famous places both large and small, but only the big cities get attention stateside. Venture to the in-between places and discover why they deserve a spot on the map.
