THE POT OF GOLD AT THE RAINBOW END MYTH — Steemit (2024)

A rainbow is a spectrum of light that appears in the sky when sunlight is refracted through rain drops or other drops of moisture in the Earth’s atmosphere.
It is composed of seven colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet and was firstly discovered by Isaac Newton in his color wheel.

One of the most storied rainbow myths is that there's a pot of gold at the end of every one. Not only that, but that the pot of gold is guarded by a tricky leprechaun.

This myth was got from the story of the Vikings that lived in Ireland years ago. This story goes like this:

Once upon a time, the Vikings lived in Ireland, looting and plundering as they pleased, then burying their ill-gotten treasures all over the countryside.

When they eventually departed from the Emerald Isle, they inadvertently left behind some of their booty, which the leprechauns found. Now, the leprechauns knew the Vikings had gotten their treasures through stealing, which was wrong.

This bad behavior made the leprechauns mistrust all people, Vikings or not. In order to ensure no humans could take what they now considered their gold, the leprechauns reburied it in pots deep underground all over the island.

When rainbows appear, they always end at a spot where some leprechaun's pot of gold is buried. They have inspired much popular folklore, including the belief that a leprechaun can be found with a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

This story of the Vikings and Leprechauns was widely spread and were taken as magic but it was a myth. The reason why was that it is rarely and taken as a miracle if you can come a cross the end of a spectrum.

In few years ago this myth came to an end when an amateur photographer as was travelling came to meet the end of the rainbow but surprisingly there was no pot of gold at its end as he thought.

Jason Erdkamp caught the shot as he travelled along a motorway in Orange County, California, in the rain.
The end of the rainbow appeared to emerge from a stormy sky to hit the windscreen of Mr Erdkamp’s car as he drove along the northbound 341 tollroad.

As he drove along the motorway, he managed to capture other shots of the rainbow in which it appears to hit the ground.

While Mr Erdkamp was not able to find a pot of gold, and has not mentioned meeting any fairies after getting to the end of rainbow.

There are very many things we don’t know about the rain bow but as time goes on we shall keep discovering and sharing them.
