A strange footage of a plain paused mid-air has social media users shell-shocked. It is scientifically impossible for an airborne vehicle to stand still mid-flight. There’s simple physics behind it, a flying plane has to keep moving forward to stay airborne. If the aircraft were to stop, it would quickly not only lose altitude but also plummet toward the ground eventually crashing. Hence, the weird visual has kick-started a heated discussion on X. In the video, the person holding the camera is moving adjacently in another aircraft while capturing the plane that appears to be stuck.
“Watched a plane pause in the air today and y’all still think physics is real,” wrote an X user while sharing the footage online. Notably, the plane continues to look paused mid-air until the end of the clip. In a subsequent post, the user added, “Lots of ‘physics understanders’ pretending that they’ve never dropped a pound of bricks and a pound of feathers at the same time and disproved Newtonian physics at home. Didn’t realize big physics had this many shills,” they concluded.

As soon as the video surfaced online, it left many curious about its motion. Many asked how the aircraft is hovering, while a few pointed out there has to be an explanation assuming it could be an optical illusion or effect created by the camera angle. Then there were those who provided reasons behind why the plane appeared to be not moving. A user commented, “The video is taken from adjacent aircraft. ATC (Air Traffic Control) matches planes together at the same speed to maximize efficiency. So both planes are just moving at the same speed close together. That is all.”
Lol. This is approach to San Francisco. The video taken fromAdjacent aircraft. ATC matches planes together AT SAME speed to maximize efficiency. So both planes moving same speed close together. That is all— Sean Bosely (@SWApilot57) October 13, 2023
Another poked fun at the video creator’s comment, “‘Still think physics is real’ as he is flying on a plane.”

Another added, “Freaky at first, but then by the end you could tell the plane had passed over the bridge, meaning it is flying.”

Meanwhile, a user offered, “Just a parallax effect, and it happens when the different elements move at different opposite speeds creating this effect.”

There were many who doubted the authenticity of the clip calling it fake. The footage has amassed over 14.3 million views.
