Money can’t buy everything, especially the essential things in life.

Money is an essential tool that enables individuals and families to access necessities such as shelter, food, clothing, transportation, etc. Although money is crucial throughout life’s journey, money cannot purchase everything. When reflecting on some of the most enjoyable life experiences, the first thing that comes to mind is not money.

In addition to the most often-heard things, money cannot buy time, health, and happiness. Below are three more things money cannot buy.

Knowledge

Only some have a quest to obtain knowledge through real-life experience. A person who routinely makes the same mistakes despite the person ‘knowing better.’ Just because people know better does not mean better decisions will be made. The key difference between education and knowledge is just that.

Knowledge is based on accumulating information gained through experience. A good education can lead to a high-paying job. But that does not mean a person who earns a high income has mastered the art of personal finance. The skill can only be gained through the experience of someone who has experienced financial success.

Genuine relationships

If someone only wants to be associated with someone else because of status, possessions, or influence, RUN! The types of people that do that are only trying to gain something.

Unfortunately, this often shows up more in family relationships than friendships. Authentic relationships cannot be bought and are often formed through time and effort. Real friends and family usually act in a way that shows appreciation for quality time and selflessness.

Money cannot buy everything, and it does not have the power to make someone happy and fulfilled. However, money is essential in other aspects. If someone had $100,000 more today than yesterday, the relationship with each topic mentioned above would not change much.

Passion

Everyone has at least one enjoyable activity, even if money is not motivation.

Passion can show up in many ways. Some people are passionate about cooking, landscaping, teaching, volunteering, or traveling. A passion could be something that someone is genuinely interested in doing.

Although a passion might cost money, enjoying that activity is more valuable than money. Furthermore, money cannot buy passion, but it can unlock the door by providing more opportunities to try new things.

Money often satisfies someone temporarily and is never a source of happiness. To achieve long-term happiness, something less tangible than money can give someone that. Success in life rarely has anything to do with having a five- or six-figure bank account balance. Money is only a tool.
